Is there really a $100 difference here?

I realize that these cards are rough,
but is there really a $100 dollar difference
in these two cards?

If I had to chose 1 or the other I would take the psa 1 400 card. that's if i had no other choice.

I'd pay an extra 100 to get 4 corners.

Agreed -- definitely worth the difference.
  • I am NOT saying they are the same.
I am NOT saying there is no difference,
I am not sure that there is a $100
    difference between these two
    very poor condition cards.

  • Comparing the two cards, I would definitely go $100 higher for all 4 corners and a heck of a lot less heavy creases. Now if the "Auth" card was being sold for $100 or so, I would think twice about it.

the three posters felt there WAS a $100 difference between the cards.

you asked a question, and people answered it. whats the problem?

  • If we knocked $200 of the price of each, I'd still take the second card for double ($200 vs. $100). As far as PSA 1s go, it's not a bad card - the first example is why there's a difference in "Poor" condition cards.

    there no problem at all.
    I was just explaining that
    I do understand that there
    IS a difference.
I did not want people to think
that I thought they were worth
    the same.
    that is all.

    I DO appreciate everyone's opinions,
    input and thoughts.

just do not try to make this into something.

I don't really see a $2401.05 difference here, but some people prefer certain cards over other. Just for the record, I would take the cornerless Robinson.

    Good point!

and truthfully these cards are not sold,
so it remains to be seen what they
    are "really worth".
I just found it interesting to me.

Definitely, no harm in looking. The funny thing is that there is so much discrepency with lower grade cards sometimes. PSA 1 might sell for $40 one day or $90 the next. Low grade collectors tend to decide on their own value for a card they need. I keep my value for most stuff at 8%, but I'll adjust for something I really need or want.

I have found that cards in grade 1-4 are the area is which personal preference and high/low end apply the most.

BKAH -- I think everyone understood your meaning from the first post. I wasn't trying to start anything. There are varying opinions/preferences especially in collector grade cards. Thanks for starting this thread. Thankfully PSA is grading more cards AUTH...

The difference with the 61 Mantle is very noticeable, at least to me. I think a better comparison would have been a nice PSA 7 for 300ish and the PSA 8 that was pictured. The centering is off and the borders are yellowing.

Yes, but nowhere is the jump as dramatic in terms of $$ or % as from a PSA 8 to PSA 9, or PSA 9 to PSA 10. For many cards, the value just about doubles as a card increases a full "old timer" grade (Good, VG, Ex, NrMt) - 61 Mantle is a perfect example. About a $50 card in G, $100 in VG, $200 in Ex, $400 in NM - maybe $700-800 in NM/MT. Then it jumps $2000 which is 4x in MINT??

I understand the arguments for scarcity, buying the best, etc. - but this is where I've felt that high grade cards are overvalued relative to lower grade. Would I rather have 40 VG mantles or 1 MINT one? interesting to consider for the future.

    1420:

I saw the same differences in the Mantles when I scanned eBay, I just don't think I saw any 7s listed. I wasn't using the example to argue aesthetics but rather to show that price variation can be severe from one grade to another.

Many people saw that between a solid 8, a solid 9, and a solid 10 there are few differences. I merely used the 8 and the 9 to point out that, by definition, not a lot really differs.
