I won a blob

ajaanajaan Posts: 17,411 ✭✭✭✭✭
I was a winner in the New York State Take Five lottery yesterday - I won another Take Five Ticket. So I feel lucky. I bid on this blob of a coin. If the description is correct I did very well. If not, the most I'm out is $11.99

What the heck is this coin?

Nice coin. Just as the seller said the luster leaps out at you. It looks almost mark free also. In my opinion a really great buy on your part.

It is mark free, I dare anyone to show me a mark on that coin. I also dare anyone to show me the coin. I really want to know what it looks like. image

No dispute on the marks. It certainly looked mark free to me.

Hey sometimes you have to take a chance. Two days ago I bought some coins from a seller in France. Hmmm.....I wonder what they will look like. image One of his pictures had that Far Off look to it.

  • How can it be BU if it's 50% red...?

Lloyd, Lloyd, Lloyd. Don't forget the ebay translation:

At least it's not a seller using a stock picture. You can rest assured they wouldn't sell multiple coins from that pic

    Ha! Coulda fooled me! image

Then again, this might be one of those rare opportunities, where the seller's crappy picture works in your favor by frightening off would-be competitors. Intriguing!

PS- maybe you can take a little of those Lotto winnings and get yourself some new lipstick. The Day-Glo green you're wearing now clashes with your lime green hair.

Coin sure looks BU! You must really feel lucky! image
  • Nice Blob Don!, but with out proper atribution it does stand a chance of being a glob.

I hope it hasn't been whizzed to show that luster, other wise it could be a imposter.

Very nice catch on the opportunity, hopefully you haven't been taken by a loony.

I received a very nice email from the seller in which he stated if I don't like the coin just return it for a full refund. I have a good feeling about this one.

That's really generous. Usually all sales of blobs are final.

I had very good luck last time I bid on a coin with a poor pic. I got a $125 coin for $15.

I'd rather see a poor pic, and take a chance...than receive a coin that doesn't match the good ebay pic.

The coin was waiting for me when I returned from FUN. The coin is a brown Unc with some red around the lettering. Not bad for $12.

Would you like me to drive the hour and a half and get your new camera and software up and running? Honest, I'll be happy to do it.
I would consider it a public service.

I've had a similar incident once. A very bad picture of an Ionian islands coin, that the seller graded as XF but the scan was terrible. The price was less than $10 so I took a chance, submitted it,and it graded MS63 BRN, now worth above $100.

    Nice catch Don.

A quick scan. Coin really has more red than the scan. Could have been RB.

I didn't know it was a proof. I put MS down on the submission sheet. Obviously NGC thought differently.
