Rookie Question???

Happy new year everyone.

What is a good way to find higher grade circulated coins?? For instance 2003 coins. Is the Mint a good source?? Local banks?

I figured the Mint so I bought 2 rolls from them. Did I waste my money?

Welcome aboard! The mint is generally overpriced, at least in my eyes... depending on the denomination, see if your bank gets rolls by date (especially the quarters).

Buy uncirculated coins, and then carry them around in your pocket for a few weeks. It works for any coin you want.

I bought the Jefferson Nickels. I have yet to see any in my bank or in circulation.

Shouldn't they grade well from the Mint?

It is my personal opinion that most MS stuff from the mint is crap, excepting commems.

You may find a few MS65 or 66, but most will be lower grade unc.

I chose that Icon because I like the Franklin halves and I sent in a 1958 proof set to be graded with my 4 free submissions.
so the 58 Franklin Half proof will be my first one in my new collection.

    Hope they grade well.

I hope it doesn't take too long to get use to grading standards.

I do not think I will like poor gradesimage

Can you look at a pile of 50 and pick out the higher - highest graded coin(s)??

if not buy some upper PCGS MS coins on eBay for your favorite series

many times you can buy lower slabs cheaper and quicker than you can have PCGS make them for you

to buy coins in rolls or mini-bags from the mint at 2-3 times face is a waste in my opinion - go to your bank and get them at face if you want to sort them - if you want to hold them for a long time, then it depends how many you want -
