Okay, who can tell me the Jim Eisenreich story? Didn't he have a nervous breakdown and was out of baseball for a few years?

  • Maybe I did it wrong but I intended to vote for Molitor and Eckersley.

Eisenreich fought Tourettes (sp?) Syndrome ... & won.

  • You didn't do it wrong per se, but you can only vote for one player. The poll asked who your top choice would be.

With the exception of a few, this seems like a less than stellar class.

Eckersley and Molitor I'm sure will go in this year. Gossage and Sutter and maybe Lee Smith will probably also go in eventually, but I can't see more than one reliever elected per year, even with sportswriters' infatuation with the save statistic. Tommy John, Bert Blyleven and maybe Jack Morris could eventually gain entry if there is another lean year like this during their stay on the list. Ryne Sandberg will probably have a groundswell at some point, too. If I had a vote, and assuming Molly and Eck were mortal locks even without my help, I'd pick John, I suppose, or maybe Hernandez.

Seriously, I voted for Molitor on this poll - obviously the best, and almost the only, clear choice. I'll keep pulling for Jim Rice in the future, though. I was surprised that Sandberg made it that high. He'll probably get in in the next few years.
