Why? I have no idea. I just started putting them away back in the 70's with the help of mom and pop. There's some good looking ones in there. I alway wondered if there's a "key" double did or repunched mint mark for the year.
I only thought I had $400 bucks worth until this thread.
Same here, I don't know what my hang up is with this coin. I think it's the challenge; AND, the fact that it's still unknown by some and still found in rolls, shops, etc.
Hmmmm ... does four complete Registry sets of 1938-64 Jeff proofs (as well as a complete 1965 to date set) count? I could throw up a couple of other complete Registry Jeff proof sets if I desired. And, then there are extras of many dates ... do I have a problem?
I have what may qualify as a "mini-hoard" too. I have ten 1878 Morgan dollars; but 3 are 8tf and 7 are 7/8tf. When I get maybe four times as many I guess that might be considered hoarding.
From observations I currently have targeted three coins. I won't reveal the dates but one is an Indian Head Cent. The second is a buffalo nickel. The third, I almost hate to say it, is a Franklin Half.
Got quoines?
The most money I made are on coins I haven't sold.
20 or so 1858 small cent patterns - does that count??

<< <i>I hoard all the 1933 double eagles I can get my paws on.
Yeah, me too! I just can't seem to find them, I must have misplaced them
Yep that's 2120 of them.

I found my first three out of that one roll i posted in a thread earlier this month. They just went for grading.
I'll post the grades in March

What's a few?
Are you obsessed with them? My coin dealer thinks I'm in need of counseling for my obsession with these Type IIs...
Gandyjai,
I am glad I'm not the only one. They are just fun to search for....
The Ludlow Brilliant Collection (1938-64)
That's what is great, they're still unknown by a lot of dealers. Eventually, I think you'll see that change...

All coins grade Fine or better.
I like the 1899-O Barber half and have about 12
the 1897-S Barber Half and have 3
and the 1900-O half and have about 8
I wonder why I hoard those dates, and am perplexed as to any answer!
Tyler
here's my 97-S hoard before I pared it in half:
Had 18 of them in PCGS holders at one time; I'm down to 11 now.
<< <i>What's a few? >>
Currently, 85 PCGS graded, five more in on a submission and 51 raw.
