Grades IN!

Well I finally done it! image Coins boxed up and sent to be graded but I decided to go with ANACS this time around. I had asked PCGS about putting Breen varieties on the slab but they said they did not do that and I had some I wanted done that way. I also had some very nice coins with great detail but I think have been cleaned at some time. These coins were/should have been expensive that I bought for a song and when that happens something has to be wrong with them. Cleaned or fake but at least ANACS will holder them if it's just cleaned. And if fake they will let me know, I just didn't want BB'ed for cleaning. ANACS will at least tell you that's the problem.

If these coins come out not cleaned I have an idea PCGS will see them because searching the same grade in a PCGS holder is bringing quite a bit more money. We'll see.

Does anyone know the turnaround time for ANACS? Is their Economy submission time as long as PCGS?

I sent these in Economy and called them. They told me Economy was taking about 60 days so I upgraded to 5 day service. See grades below.

ANACS economy will usually take 2-4 months to come back. Try their 5 day service for $15/coin five or more coins submitted.

  • 5 day submission to ANACS, they received coins on the 12th and returned the 20th not bad with a holiday in there.

1919 Lincoln MS62 RB This is about what I thought.

1888 S Seated Liberty Dime VG 8 Little disapointed, thought it would be at least Fine.

1890 Seated Liberty Dime AU 55 Thought this one might MS but at least it wasn't cleaned. Satisfied with the AU

1954 S Roosevelt MS 64 Error Breen 3736 "No Js Variety" YAHOO! Not bad for pocket change that I put away about 10 years ago!

1853 Seated Liberty "Arrows & Rays" "VG Details Net G4" Didn't catch this one. Never thought about it being cleaned and was guessing VG to Fine. Bought the coin for less than $10, maybe didn't get hurt to bad?

1900 O Barber Half G 6 Missed on this one, thought it had VG details.

Now here are the ones I thought I knew would come back BB'ed from PCGS and I would have been right.

1843 Seated Liberty Half "VF Details Net Fine 12" Scratched & Damaged Not a surprise here. (but was hoping for one)

1900 O Barber Quarter "Fine Details Net VG 8" Corroded & Cleaned. Figured Cleaned and the grade was what I thought if not cleaned.

This was the first time in several years I have sent coins in to be graded. I am satisfied with most of the grades and at least I don't have very much in these coins. They were bought right except for the 1843 Half. That was a last second snipe on ebay where the seller had it Titled as
1843 Seated Liberty Dollar. He only had a pic of the Obverse. It was going cheap for a 1843 dollar, I hit the Pay button on ebay, it took my bid and I won. I thought even if cleaned a VF Dollar from that year is bringing more than $20! Ended up sniping it for $30 and thought I hit the big time! Learned later it was a Half and not a dollar. image

Oh well, I now let Auction Stealer do the sniping for me, that way you do not have to be in a hurry! Lesson learned! image

This seems to be another example of ANACS doing a good, conservative job of grading. Your coins should be much more marketable now.
