$3.00 S+H and no complaints

Related to my pervious thread...what is an appropriate charge for shipping and handling for graded cards? I charge $3.00. I sandwich the card between two pieces of cardboard, wrap it in a thank you note, slid it into a padded mailer, and secure the mailer with clear packaging tape. I have never had a complaint so I assume the $3.00 amount is found acceptable for the secure packaging provided. I also have a 4 mile trip to the post office. What amount do you find appropriate for shipping a single graded card?

How do you guys feel about recycling packaging materials? For me, I hate waste and excessive trash, so partly out of principal and partly to be economical, I do recycle packaging materials such as boxes, peanuts, pop corn and bubble wrap. Sometimes the bubble mailer can be salvaged too or at least used as extra protection when boxing the cards. I haven't had anyone mail me recycled packaging materials except one time that I recall. It is no big deal to me if people want to be resourceful, yet offer the same type of quality packaging necessary to ship securely.

and most people know the PO charges $3.85 for priority shipping... so they can't say I am ripping them off.
Sometimes someone will request a bubble mailer for $1.50 or something... If they are really annoying about it... I say sure and send it priroty boxed anyways and eat the $1.50 loss... This rarely happens.
It makes life simple for me and I have never had anyone complain of a crushed card or prolonged shipping.
My cousin got a negative by someone who was upset at his $3.00 shipping charge.
they complained that it only cost him $1.55 to send...
the bubble mailer cost him .99...
so he earned his first neg over .45
kind of sad...

I pack very securely, as the PSA card is in a sleeve and in a small bubble envelope (or bubble wrap) then placed in a larger bubble envelope, and the exact cost at the post office is $2.13 for insured orders under $50.00 ...jay

DeutscherGeist - I agree, bubble-wrap, and pop-corn are MADE to be reused.
Reusing mailers is creative, and I admire the folks who do it, but I just don't want to take the time necessary to do so.
I feel I've been over-charged
when the actual postage amount on the package is three bucks less than what I paid for shipping.
Everyone attempts to make back their eBay and paypal fees through inflated shipping charges, but some sellers get carried away.

I use the same packing method as Jay from Qualitycards. Ive been reusing old bubble envelopes for about 2 years.
I don't mind being charge $3-4 shipping as long as I get good service. Quick shipping, nice packing: graded and ungraded cards pack w/ extra padding, no tape on toploaders and also an email to say card is on the way. I also like graded cards on protective sleeves. I did bought some graded cards that has scratches on the holder and no graded sleeves. Maybe some seller is just there for business not really into collecting. It only cost $2-3 for pack of graded sleeves.
Something like a box of 10 insured for $150 like $7.80
20 or so in the $10 range depending on insurance.

I also LOVE it when I get a PSA graded card in a sleeve. It shows a lot of detail and professionalism. Collectors hate scratches on the holders, so the sleeve is so welcome. It puts me in a very good mood.
As a buyer/collector, I don't really care if a card comes in a box or bubble mailer as long as its appropriate for the items being shipped. Raw cards sold in lots should be boxed with other protective materials, but not shipped in just a bubble mailer. I had one seller charge me $5.00 shipping. It came in a priority box. When I opened the box, the single graded card was in a new bubble mailer as well. That's excessive packing, thus running up the shipping bill. I want to buy cards not shipping charges.
Often times I pay more for shipping than on the card itself. When I bid, I calculate the shipping cost to better estimate how much I want to spend total.

Ah the good old days of $3.85 Priority Mail!
Ha! I was reading through the thread and didn't pay any attention to the posting dates. For a moment, I was like where the hell do you get $3.85 priority shipping! My PO is ripping me off.
Definitely the good ole days!
If the card isn't graded, then I would expect it in a top loader with a piece of tape on the top to keep it from sliding out, and something sturdy to keep it from bending.
Putting a single graded card in a box with packaging materials in it is worth of $3 to $4, but I'm not sure it's necessary.
If the seller is someone that does this as a business then I could see them putting in the extra effort and charge for it, along with some nice slip to consign with them. I notice that PWCC, 4SC and some others will put the extra effort. I cannot say that it sways my decision to buy from them though. It's expected as it's a business. My expectations from a collector to collector sale is different.

I would say $2 to $2.50 for shipping in a bubble envelope is reasonable, without insurance.
Shipping on a bubble mailer is $2.60 now?
Actually, after all these years I just raised my shipping fees to $3.50. Ebay/Paypal takes a portion of the shipping fee now and it has gone up to $2.60 for sending a graded card. The padded mailers obviously cost money so with $3.00 I was losing money. Plus any card that is won over $100 I insure at no cost to the buyer and the insurance rates have gone up also. I haven't had a complaint yet so I hope buyers are satisfied.
Take care.

Plus with ebay taking a 9% or 11% cut of the shipping amount charged, depending on if you have an ebay store or not, a seller
has to charge $9 to ship to Canada to just about break even.
$9.00
-7.68 Postage
-0.99 ebay cut = $0.33 left over for any packing materials, sleeves, top loader, card saver, etc...
If you see shipping charges to Canada under $8.50, those sellers are losing money on the shipping.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For USA sellers, like Grote15 mentioned above, you have to charge about $3.50 these days to break even on the shipping.
That's for non Priority mail shipping.
Actually, it costs about $2 to ship 3oz tracked to Canada. I've posted about it extensively before.
+1, works well.

Could you explain it again and or post the link to that thread.
Does this cheaper shipping to Canada satisfy the ebay online tracking?
Do I have to go directly to the USPS site to obtain the postage? Because that
would be a big pain.

$3.00 tops depending on article
After eBay and PayPal fees, envelope and label costs, it costs the seller more than $3.00 to ship a card.

Yup, it does work. Google paypal ship it now international
PayPal Ship Now (https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_ship-now). First Class International. "Letter" is good for up to 3oz. You can also choose "Large Envelope" for items that weigh more. Despite the names, both cover bubble mailers, as you probably currently use.
You then paste the tracking number generated by PP into your sold items on eBay.
It is more work, but takes me under one minute per item to complete.
