What's the difference between high & low tide on a UK Penny?

There's a 1879 High tide Penny on eBay now, but the pictures are worthless.
Can one of you please tell me or show pictures of the difference of high & low tide.
Thank you,
Glenn

The 'high' tide intersects where Britannia's left leg intersects her right. The 'low' tide is below that intersection.

My opinion - not a high tide. Note that the "P" of penny points to a border tooth, not to a gap.

Since I was recently praised for my boiled-down, simplistic treatise on world coin grading (which was basically a ripoff condensation of what's in the Krause catalog), I will share with you LordM's Sooper Dooper AND Simple Method of Tidal Attribution, which is very easy, and never fails (and is NOT mentioned in the Krause catalog, though I hear they considered it for the 2003 edition).

    1) Get whatever kinda Brit coin it is you wanna attribute.

    2) Take a clear glass and fill it with water until the water is about a millimeter or two from the rim of the glass: almost full, in other words. (Unless of course you happen to be a pessimist, in which case it's "slightly empty".)

    3) Drop the coin into the glass.

    4) If the water in the glass flows over the rim and spills on the table, you have a High Tide penny (or farthing, or whatever).

    5) If the water in the glass does not flow over, and smells like dead fish and seaweed, it's a Low Tide penny (or farthing, or whatever).

It's foolproof. Try it sometime. image
