$50 Octagonal Pan-Pac that I think everyone should at least look at!!

I just saw this eBay listing and thought I'd link it for anyone who wanted to look. Such a beautiful coin and one that will probably get no arguements as to it's true rarity or scant availability. I've seen a few listed in the big auctions lately which is a sure sign to me that things are White Hot enough for sellers to reap a nice profit from the sale.

There has also been an original case for the set listed lately and there was one on the auction block at the late November Michigan State Show. Imagine being one of the few who had the foresight and wealth at the time in 1915 to purchase the entire set!! So many things about this coin are unique in themselves or in unison with each other. It's large $50 denomination, eight sided shape, Roman Numeral date and spectacular design all combine to make it one of the most coveted prizes in the Numismatic arena!!!

Now, if only I can get the house sold in time to make the auction close!!!image

Very few of them sold back in 1915 because they cost too much image

A shame with the caliber coins the guy has that he doesn't plop a few hundred on a nice digital camera and lighting setup. Scans of coins that high caliber just don't cut it.

I would buy one, but I like my coins round and baseball cards with corners.

Seriously, though, the first time I held one of these, I was really taken with the weight of the coin. This is one serious chunk of gold.

It doesn't really seem like a coin to me because of this, though. Of course, I wouldn't mind having a fewimage

Just another pseudo-auction with a sky-high starting price. It didn't sell.

  • This is one of my personal favorites. Thought I'd post for those interested in the absolute beauty of the design.

Regarding Pan-Pac boxes - there have been several fake boxes showing up for sale recently. "Made in Japan" literally! We bought a complete set and there was a fake box with the set. The real 5 coins boxes have purple velvet lining which accounts for the purple.blue toning often found on Pan-Pac 50c
