Opening proof/UNC sets

Was wondering if you guys can lay out scenarios where busting coins out of their proof sets would
be 'the right thing to do.'
I know ,generally, doing so would degrade the value, but there must be cases when the oppisite is true.

Many of the mint and proof sets of the last 35 years are worth more as singles than
as sets. In the long run all coins will be valued on their own merits anyway so there
is no real loss in removing them from the sets. The original condition of some of these
leaves much to be desired and removing them from the sets may be the only way to save
    them.

Many collectors are hesitant to bust up sets, and singles are avidly needed by those who
assemble the date/mm sets of various denominations. In the past many of the coins went
straight into circulation when they came out of the sets and in more recent times most of
    these go straight into sets.

It wouldn't be too surprising if most of these sets don't eventually develop a premium, but
this could be years away and even then their value is likely to be based on the sum of the
    coins in the set.
