Would you cancel a bidder in an auction if...

BikingnutBikingnut Posts: 3,425 ✭✭✭✭
the bidder had a zero feedback and it looked like shill bidding? I have an item for sale on ebay, not a coin, that I relisted because it didn't sell at my reserve price. The last time, a bidder with a zero feedback rating kept running up the bid each time someone else bid. It sure made it look like shill bidding. The new auction ends tomorrow, and I thought I had seen the end of this bidder until tonight, I see he or she has bid again. I'm thinking about canceling their bid, but should I contact them first and let them know that while I appreciate their interest in the auction, it looks like shill bidding so I have to cancel the bid. I'm intersted in hearing what others here would do?

I would search and see how many items the person is bidding on and has won if any then decide.

If I did decide to cancel the bid I would just leave the remark in the reason area the bidder can see it there.
Don't forget to block them once you cancel or they might bid again.

Many new eBay users bid like that so I would not cancel the bids for that.

You obviously do not know what shill bidding is

(unless it is your other half)

why on earth would you want to cancel the bids of someone who is adding bidding activity and increasing the value of your item?
  • People have to get their start somehow on ebay. I've had a few dealings with "0 feedbackers" and all have ended well.

I have had one zero feedback that was a good guy.
I had one that was bidding over 4k on about 30 auctions and had won 4 in the past week so I asked one of the sellers he won from if he paid and they said no so I canceled his bid and blocked him.
That person is now a naru.

Well, if they bid on the same item before maybe it is because they really want it. I wouldn't cancel their bids.

I like Plaids idea. Investigate the bidder a bit and see what he is all about. It will help you make a better decision about what to do. I have a "fineprint" line at the bottom of all my auctons saying "seller reserves the right to cancel bids of bidders with multiple negatives or zero feedback".....kinda covers yer butt if you cancel them and they get huffy about it.

Shill bidding is when a person acts in colusion with the seller to drive the price up on a buyer.

There is nothing wrong with out bidding others without hitting the reserve. No reason to ban the guy.

I let this guy bid on a coin (and he won it) and he sure looked like trouble. He Never left feedback (neither did I)

relayer - I would be reluctant to let that guy bid as well - can't wait for your feedback - NEG coin arrived ok, but did not get in time for Christmas gift - I demand a refund !!!

My item is the only thing he has bid on right now. Three items total since Dec 9, of which two of those were my auction. Probably a new bidder.

Cancelling somebody because they bid on your item doesn't make sense to me.
Of course it may be a whacko messing with you but they may be legit too.
Sometimes I bid like that; I may bid everyday and nibble at the price over a period of a week until I'm high bidder or I may run back and bid everytime I'm outbid. Or I may just bid 1 really high bid.
Just depends on how bored I am.
Give us a link so we can check this guy out.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

I wouldn't cancel their bid. Who cares what it looks like (as long as it isn't). New eBayers tend to come back and rebid when they get their outbid notice.

Consider this: guy has two ebay ID's, one that he keeps as a zero and bids up items to look like he is a shill. Once bidders are chased away the same guy uses his other ID to win the item on the cheap.

    Just a thought.
