I saw the 1933 $20 and an 1804 $1 today

Took a day trip to lower Manhattan today. One of the things we did was a tour of the NY Fed (free, but tickets required in advance), including a trip down into the vault with umpteen tons of gold bars. Quite the vault! And if you saw Diehard 2(?), the vault is NOT on the same level as the subway tunnel.

Also, recently relocated to the Fed is the ANS museum. On display was the 1933 Double Eagle and one of the 1804 Bust dollars, including lots of other neat stuff, both US and Ancient coins. Worth the trip, if you're in the area.

They did give a free sample. It was a compressed brick of shredded currency. Pretty neat. I asked for a gold brick instead, but they said they ran out from the Xmas sale image

Didn't bring a camera with me. I don't think they would have allowed it anyway. Screened airport-style on the way into the building. Oh yeah, they had a Brasher Doubloon too.
