How Patient should a Forum Member be with another Member ?

FairlanemanFairlaneman Posts: 10,423 ✭✭✭✭✭
First off this post is here only because the member involved posts on this forum very often. If this would have been a Fly By Night BST forum buyer this would not have been posted here.

I just need a little help with this in reguard to a coin deal that was started on the BST forum. No names will be given out at this time because of the season we are in. If after the first of the year I do not have payment or my coins back a name will be given.

The way I look at this is if the person has a money problem or some other type of problem at least PM me and say so. Heck to me that is just common courtesy in my book.

Oh yea this all started on November 20 and the person had the coins by November 28 I believe it was. Payment was suppose to be sent on December 10. Am I jumping the Gun and having little patience ?

Damn I hated to post this but Fair is Fair in our community here. I do not treat people like this and really do not expect to be treated un-fairly either.... imageimageimage

A month is long enough to wait, at least for an explanation.

  • Sounds like an explanation is overdue. image

Actually it has not been a month as I agreed to the December 9 payment date. I just sent the coins early as No Problem has ever been had on these forums with members. image

    Ken
  • Way over due! The excuse, if any, should be a damn good one.
What is money, in reality, but dirty pieces of paper and metal upon which privilege is stamped?
  • I'd say an explanation is overdue. Like you said, if money problems came up they should at least let you know whats up and if something came up and they aren't able to pay for the coins they need to be sent back to you with an apology.

Maybe someone can chime in here and let us know if Mail from one side of the country to the other side has been really slow during the Holiday Season. Maybe this could be a explanation. Hell I am looking for any explanation for this.

an explanation or the return of the coin(s).
    the member should choose one.

  • I recently mailed a package and a card from Utah to St. Louis, Missouri and both took three days. Of course the package was sent priority but the card made it the same day.
  • I sure hope no one ever does that to me!

Okay.... a PM was received and payment was sent two days after it was suppose to go out. It looks as though maybe some parts of the country are having Mail problems. This is on the back burner untill this coming Monday.

BigE..... yes the last PM's were on the 17th. I waited a week the first time and a week the second time.

I believe this is going to work out just fine. What I think all Members should do if a problem comes up is contact the seller immediately if not sooner. Excellent reputations do not need to be trashed because of a problem that is left un-explained.

    Ken
  • Coast to coast mail for me has been running 3-4 days.
  • Yeah with Christmas and all I'm sure the mail is back logged a bit. I'm glad everything working out well for both of you.

As far as I'm concerned 'Holidays" is no excuse. I'm self employed and go through this everytime a holiday comes up, vacations etc. etc. I have to pay MY bill no matter what, and expect the same in return. A problem that may arise is a different story though and should be communicated.

But you say they post on here very often. If said person has been posting lately and owes you money there is no excuse for non-communication. Sorry I have to be so blunt. Money owed and if there is no emergency in the family or the like, Hang himimage

When I send money or a coin I usually ask the person if they have received my end of the deal, if they don't contact me first. Although I have a dealer right at the moment, I sent a coin to, and even payed HIS postage with cash in the box, hasn't even bothered to let me know he received it.

Edit...OK, I see he communicated now, I still feel the same way though image

Business is business - I would request that he pay up or ship 'em back. I have had no problems with mail - in fact, it seems to be quicker than usual for holiday season - but I don't have snow in Texas either. image

Mail is slow. My father mailed my kids an envelope on Monday the 15th. It arrived on Saturday the 21st. 6 days from NY to PA!

    As said,
Business is buisness, if an agreement was made, it should be honored by the terms agreed upon. When I buy something from somebody, I get the payment right out to them, and I expect the same common courtesy.

If something happened finacially, where I could not meet my obligations, I would contact the seller immeadately as a courtesy to try and work something out, I would hate too , but would do it.

No excuse for this amount of time with no explanation! period..
  • In an unrelated, but related story.

I belong to a very small, very close knit NFL football forum of a coulpe of hundred members. Of that amount 50 are daily posters and we have all known each other through the internet for years.

In the 2002 season, there was a fierce rivalry between Buccaneer fans and Packer fans, and a number of wagers were made.

Of the three wagers I made with Packer fans who I had known for years - only one was paid. One member - over $20.00 - disappeared from the forum after the game in November 2002 and never returned - even though that person had been a daily poster.

The second - $100.00 - the loser of the bet became inscenced when after a month, I sent him a "reminder email" regarding the money he had promised to send three weeks before. He started a thread in the forum stating he had no intention of paying - even though I had a firmly established reputation for always paying my debts. He was subsequently banned from the forum and went on to post threads in related forums about how he "got over".

    Takes all kinds.

If somebody has financial problems, he or she should return the coins with an explanation. Simple and no hard feelings.

    hey Ken

mail delivery might be running a few days longer due to the holidays, but PM's, e-mail and the telephone are all rather instantaneous as far as i know. whenever i have a transaction at the BST or eBay, i always notify the other party whenever another step takes place and i request them to do the same. most do and i can only wonder why some don't choose to communicate. it makes things go smoother and encourages a repeat transaction.

while it seems your deal will work out in the end without the need to divulge a members identity here, in fairness to the Forum you should probably make it available via PM for those who'd like to know. to that end, i think you've handled it like a champ so far.

I have found the mail to be slow. A member shipped me a package on the 17th (I thought they PM'ed me that the 16th was the day, but no matter), and I picked it up this morning at the PO.
    That's Ga. to N.H.
As stated above though. Communication is the key. Positive and negative. It keeps things on the up and up.

All has been resolved between myself and the buyer of the coins in this matter. Again I think it is wise if members would keep in contact with each other when buying or selling between each other so mis-understandings would not happen. Probably both of us were at fault in this transaction.

Yea what has happened to integrity ? When this was finally resolved I told this smuck I would keep my mouth shut and not say a word about this transaction to anyone. The same was suppose to be done by him.

Well I received a PM from another member today, February 23 2004 ,who received a PM from the smuck stating that he had a problem with me and did not like me anymore. Basically I could give a Rats Ass whether he likes me or not.

The only problem this smuck had was that he took over a month extra from our agreed date of payment after receiving the coins from me 4 days after we agreed on a price and payment date. Now if I am the bad guy in this so be it. One thing I will promise is that if I hear of this smuck talking to other forum members about this again I will out him on the forum with a detailed description about how this damn transaction took place....image

  • All else aside, I agree with keets. Shipping may be slow at times, but emails and PMs still work fine. An explaination would be at the very least the courtious and appropriate thing to do.

This is something that just should not happen here. If you were on my end you would be pissed also. Lets see you ship 500 bucks worth of coins to a forum member and get the run around for a month and a half then have a agreement that when it is finally resolved to keep your mouth shut. I guess he did not, Huh George ?

Ask some of these other folks if I do this type of BS.

    Ken,

I am sorry, but I have to most vociferously disagree with you. The correct spelling is "schmuck" (though shmuck is an acceptable alternative). Not only do I have the ethnic credentials in this matter, I looked it up in dictionary.com. image

    I'm afraid RYK is correct:

    From webster.com:

    Main Entry: schmuck
    Pronunciation: 'shm&k
    Function: noun
    Etymology: Yiddish shmok, literally, penis
    slang : JERK 4

You californians better get your act together and start pronouncing it rightimage.

Actually spelling is "schmuck" with a varient spelling of shmuck
Definition: NOUN: Slang A clumsy or stupid person; an oaf.
ETYMOLOGY: Yiddish shmok, penis, fool, probably from Polish smok, serpent, tail.

anybody that was paying attention to the Winged Liberty series, could probably figure out who the players were/are in this,

a thread was posted on the BST by FairlaneCat to sell some lovely PQ Winged Libertys.... Of course, the normal cast of lovable Merc Heads were interested......

    I figured it out quick.....

I will say that the other person isnt a schmuck or however this is spelled. The other person is a really good guy and great forum member..

    As is FairlaneCat.....

I dig em and like em both.....

This purchase/deal was done in December, and things can get tight....

I am saddened that the outcome was what it was.....

Anyways, I don't know what the latest developments are, but somebody else could have just as easily figured it out as I did, and maybe the other party didn't say a word...

Listen, the Merc Heads are a special group...... and I love you all........ Every one of you! I enjoy your threads.... even when a coin I wanted goes 'poof' (NOT!).........

We need not division in the ranks, we must unite, and beat down those meanie Kennedy Heads!

    To Battle!

Deep down I do not think the person is a schmuck at all. Breaking his promise to say nothing more about the deal after it was completed, finally, just Flipped the switch yesterday.

Today is a new day and this whole mess is past history I believe.
