Any of this free Money Yours?

I implore everyone to take the time to search for unclaimed funds, held in your name by your state Comptroller. They are holding "BILLIONS" of our money.

These funds can come from many sources: death benefits, insurance refunds, bank accounts, bail money, pay checks, lottery, bank deposit boxes, etc.

When you do the search (if you have a choice), just type in the last name or just a few letters of the last name. The reason that there are so many people on these lists, is because the name is spelled wrong, By typing in just a few letters of the last name, and no address (again if you can). You have the greatest possibility of finding even the misspelled names.

Please look for friends, family, yourselves, organizations that you belong to, business', churches, government agencies, communities, etc. You might be surprised as to what you find. Bookmark the URL and check frequently.

If you like what you see, please pass this URL to other boards, friends, neighbors, employees or anyone you can think of. I have personally found over 200 accounts for people. The highest award that I have so far, is a $2600 find.

I once did this to find that the state owed me $200 but by the time the payout was figured someone else would be getting over half of it after taxes and so on.

What does this have to do with this board?

    Happy holidays!
  • RobE,

Ever hear of being nice? Doing something for people even when you do not know them. Lots of people do not even know that they can search and find funds for themselves or family members. You are one of the Elite, you knew about it. Good for you. What does it have to do about this board? Hmmm Nothing I guess if everyone on here is as righteous as you with a pompous attitude. Tis the Season man, let your belt out a notch and enjoy life. Life is not all about, mine is better than yours and I have what you don't. Sometimes a random act of kindness goes a long way in life!

If you care to take this on one on one, PM me, I would be glad to share my reasons for posting this on the board!

    Easy killer,sloooooooooow down.

My comment was a neutral one.

  • Not as easy as it sounds. I had an Aunt who passed away (I am sole living relative) here in NYS and a friend told me about an outstanding amount at the State Comptroller's Office when he typed in my last name. So I contacted them and had to provide a copy of her Death Certificate ($20), notarized statement that I was sole living survivor ($15), etc. I submitted the paperwork to the State Comptroller's Office and only then did they tell me it was $120 from an insurance company unclaimed dividend. A month later, they asked for additional paperwork (copy of a death certificate from my Dad who has been gone 30 years, my other deceased Aunt, etc.) and they wanted me to track down any living relatives that I had on my Dad's side and what their status is (all dead) with proof (death certificates). I told them to keep the $120.
  • A friend of mine does appraisal for one of the state's unclaimed property divisions. Basically, they go through the stuff, put it up for auction on ebay, then hold the proceeds against any future claims. Of course, the descriptions are so laughable (things like "3 morgan dollars" "lot of baseball cards") that no one could ever search through the stuff. Amazingly though, because of all the publicity they get, the prices go through the roof - I saw a 90 Pro Set football PARTIAL set go for $150!!

Yet as with anything in gov't, the people working there are so worthless that they've managed to raise $750k in the last two years from the sales of the unclaimed property - and their administrative expenses have been (drumroll...) $750k. So it's considered a success by gov't standards.
