Unusual PCGS Slab

Just saw a couple of PCGS Cal Fractional Gold slabs with an off-color slab insert depicting a 49'er. Anyone know the story behind these?

  • I first saw those with fractionals being sold by B&M at the same time they were selling gold dust recovered from the SS Central America (The gold dust uses the same prospector underprinting), I assume that they were probably also from the SS Central America. I have also seen some with pieces from the Jay Roe collection. I don't know if these can be requested or if it is like how it has been with some of the other specialty labels and they are only available with large submissions at an added fee for specific submitters. In this case I would imagine B&M since that is where all of the ones seen so far have originated from.
