If you bid/win a coin on teletrade; can you go back and view the bidding action as you can on Ebay? I'm curious if I can go back and see how many other bidders there were, etc...

To do so would be revealing the Man behind the Curtain.

Oh, I never realized it was anonymous...It would probably help if I read something before signing up and bidding right?

One more ?: When you put a max bid in; does Teletrade automatically use proxy bidding like Ebay? I'm sure it does, I just don't have time/desire to read thru all that babble....Thanks
  • Yes it does. It proxies just like eBay.

Massscrew, to answer your question...Yes, if you enter a max bid it works at Teletrade the same way as ebay! What I don't understand is why there is no privacy on ebay. Anyone may see"your personal business" simply by clicking search by bidder . Personally, I don't think that's right! There should be some degree of privacy, wouldn't you agree?

I certainly agree. It's funny how lost I was at Teletrade looking for all the Ebay "luxuries." image
  • I always liked the country auction where you could see who you were bidding against.
I like to see the profile of those bidding against me.
Even at the local auctions, one can see who is bidding and may have insight into whether the item is being bid up for the seller.
Privacy is o.k., but not when deception may be involved.
When I'm bidding, I don't care who knows!

eBay allows a certain degree of preventing shilling by displaying bidders, whereas it runs rampant on Teletrade.
Privacy issue? It's an eBay handle. Regardless, the pluses outweight the minuses in my opinion.

What I am saying regarding ebay is this. If,for example, manofcoins wants to see what boom's interested in all he has to do is search by bidder and he can see ALL MY BUSINESS,every item and exactly what I bid . This is privacy at it's worst! He could shadow my every move if he wanted to. When I first got on ebay a man I obviously didn't know contacted me and told me he had seen that I had bid such and such and since I hadn't won, he just so happened to have one he'd let me have at a certain price. I freaked and went off on this dude. Ebay needs to change this as it is definitely a major invasion of privacy. At Teletrade you don't even know who your competition is...I LIKE THAT!

Excellent point and I agree, it's a tradeoff. One way of preventing others knowing your business is to snipe the auction(s) you're interested in. Others will know AFTER the fact but not before.
Otherwise, consider it a compliment. If other Collectors are researching what it is you are bidding on and what it is you're chasing after then you have obtained a certain degree of credibility within the hobby.

  • As I said , in not so many words, I like to know who I'm bidding against.
It does limit the shilling aspect of internet auctions.

  • BOOM...

Guess you never went to local country auctions just for the hell of it. You always knew who was bidding and what they were looking for.
One didn't need a feedback profile to know, because you often knew them personaly. Why do people want to keep their buying habits so secret at auction now.
Sorry, people do have a right to keep their personal life just that way. When it comes to auctions, tele-communications offers a venue for scammers and secret bids, anonymous
bidders. Putting some information available does deter many con artists. It is designed, not perfect, but as an aid to protect oneself from being ripped off.
There is an attempt to make most people happy and the attempt to find a balance.

Bob, I think you're misunderstanding me. I can see what any bidder on ebay is pursuing live and shadow him! What has happened afterwards is not a problem at all. Suppose I want to see what a couple of my buddies are after...not only is that info available but how much they have bid is available as well-letting me know what I have to beat! There's something just not right about that! Oh yes, I've been to live auctions and enjoy them very much image That's why I have taken to bidding as late as possible versus way ahead of time, just as Braddick has said! After the auction I don't mind if somebody sees what I have done but I don't want them knowing what I'm interested in .Again-this is why I bid as late as possible! However at Teletrade I can enter a "Max-bid" and forget about it checking in late in the ball game if I am truly interested!

How can you see what someones max bid is on eBay?
