Time out from all the Polls for a sec

This poll thing has been put into a tailspin like it deserved to be when Vargha made a joke of it.I don't know exactly what took place but can understand why people around here get fed up with arrogance, selfishness and rudeness which is as equally uncalled for as popularity polls.

While this is pretty much a Pro baseball/vintage majority there are a hell of a lot more types of collectors around here that collect all types of cards, and nomatter what somebody collects, or wether you like what they collect or not they should be given the respect they allow themselves to be given.Nobody needs to trash somebody over their opinion of what vintage is in their minds.Nobody needs to go around with an Ego the size of Nebraska and speak their opinion like it's Gospel either. You'll never see Marshall Fogel,or any collector on that level come to this board and go out of their way to be a jerk,or underhandedly insult someone because of what they collect.

Also, where else could you go other than ebay to find such a diverse group of collecotrs to buy sell trade? In this little PSA community you can be more personal than eBay.You can share stories, enjoy the hobby, ask questions,as well as learn about things you never gave much thought to until someone posts a topic regarding whatever the subject may be.Nomatter what scale you place yourself on in this hobby,or where someone thinks you should be placed,it should be kept in mind that this board is for everyone.

As for a little person like me around here,I'm just a guy who collects, asks questions and admires what the good people do around here.I don't contribute much other than a person who you know will buy from you, sell to you, or trade with you without any problems. As well, everyone I've dealt with here I know there won't be any problems with either. At least within reasonable control.

On a side note folks, did you know this HOFER used to like to chase after fire trucks?image

Anybody know of a Ballplayer this crazy?

Happy collecting and Happy Holidays

ROB - I read alot about Rube Waddell, he was "mentally challenged" and drank too much, but could sure pitch.
Hall Of Fame negro leaguer Rube Foster was nicknamed after him. And in many away cities that Waddell pitched
fans would hold up shiny toys and puppies to get him off his game. And he sure loved chasing fire engines.
He was quite a character and died at 38...jay

Here's some cards of Rube. Funny thing though, these cards are over 40 years old and yet they were made almost 50 years after he died. (1876-1914) RIP....jay

Great post, these message boards really need to come back down to earth and ego's need to be shelved or I doubt we will ever be afforded with contributions from hobby leaders such as Marshall Fogel.

    Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Waddell was also known for waving in his outfielders during exhibition
games, and then he'd proceed to strike out the side. He apparently did
it in one official major league game against Detroit, as he waved his
outfielders in and told them to sit down on the infield. He mowed 'em down 1,2,3.

Another funny story about Rube is that his bunkmate on the team
got so fed up with the crumbs from Waddell's nighttime snacks that
he had written into his contract a clause forbidding Rube from eating
    crackers in bed.

Here's another card of Rube's. Gotta admit he even looks a little whacky...

    jay:

yes it is! I actually "borrowed" the image from Seigel's collection
of T206 HOF'ers on the Set Registry. Personally, I prefer the "throwing"
version of the T206 card that theBobs posted -- I recently picked it up
in a nice, colorful PSA 4. The 8's are a little out of my range.
  • Almost as crazy is Doc Ellis pitching a no-hitter while tripping on LSD!

Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.
