Canadian Maple Leaf and Mexican Libertads

Hi all,
I was just curious what everyone thinks of the Canadian Maple Leafs and the Mexican Libertads in Silver?
I usually collect Kennedys and Silver Eagles but I really like the design on the Libertads and the Maple Leaf has such an attractive shine to it.
If anyone has any suggestions on collecting European coins in the same area please let me know.
Thanks for everyones help.
Steven

You may want to consider the UK silver Britannias and China silver Pandas.

I like uncirculated Mexican Pesos that were struck in the 1930s through1945. These are inexpensive coins that have a pleasing design and I often wonder how many survived the melt down of the 1979-80 time frame. Please understand that I am not suggesting that they are rare, but I do think they offer more than the silver bullion coins of today.

I like the Kookaburras best, but the Libertads are awesome, too.

  • I like the Libertads, and Britanias
  • I like the Canadian Maple Leafs the best, but also like the Britainnias, Pandas and Kookaburras.

If you are interested in some proof Libertads, I have some 91/92's available below Krause.
  • The world silver bullion coins are typically nicer quality than the BU silver eagles - especially the Australian and Chinese coins. I have several dates available on my website and a world silver set on eBay if you are interested. See links in my sig below.

Bullion is bullion is bullion. Buy it in the most marketable form if you must buy it at all.

  • I beg to differ with 291fifth... Bullion is not just bullion. Why then would my wholesale cost for a 1996 silver eagle cost three times as much as a 2003 or 2004 silver eagle? Simple... many of these coins are way beyond "silver rounds or bars" which is my definition of "silver bullion". Several of these so-called "bullion coins" carry significant numismatic or collector premiums since you simply can't get them on the secondary market. For example, a 2000 1 oz Chinese silver panda wholesales at about $30 PER coin. Not too bad a return for a coin that was issued at $10 just 3 years ago! Bullion is not just bullion.

  • I like the Maple Leafs myself and bought my first one a few months ago. I like the Silver Chinese Pandas too. I don`t have one myself and I`m considering getting one sometime.
  • I just completed my silver maple collection. It took a while for my local dealer to find a '96. I'm going after the libertads next. I can't wait to display a collection of modern North American one ounce silver.

On a lighter note, what's up with the queen on the '04 maple. Someone please tell me the RCM realized they made a mistake and will be changing the obverse again in '05.
