Gold coin on Antique RoadShow....

Did anyone else see this old Double Eagle that was fashioned into a watch?
Actually the expert said that two Double Eagles were used to make it.
At a glance it looks like a normal gold coin but the two halves are hinged on one side an opens to reveal a
time piece inside.
I want to say it was made in Switzerland but the guy said some other place I think.
What was that country again? I want to say some Asian country.
I was surprized when I heard it but for some reason I cant recall what that country was.
The value placed on this piece was I believe $3,000-$4,000 ?

  • I didn't see it but I cringe every time I see any coin butchered.
It was probably an impressive bit of craftsmanship, but it still ruined a good coin !

I have only seen one coin on Antiques Road Show and that was a 1797 2d from Great Britain... a fairly decent example

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
