1966 Bazooka Mantle PSA 9

For those of you who are working on the Mantle set on the set registry, thought you might be interested in the 1966 Bazooka I just received back from
PSA. It is currently listed on ebay.
As you know, PSA only grades those hand-cut cards that have all the dotted border intact on all four edges of the card. Any with
the border missing will be encapsulated and labled as "authentic." Any not neatly cut will not be encapsulated at all. This is the only
Mantle graded from this set to date. A 1 of 1 Mantle in a 9, for any of you who are interested.

Sweet card, Bob. I'm still saving up for those PSA 10s you offered me. Just be patient. Thanks.

    JEB.

  • Jeb,

Too nice a card to be openly bidding on.Can you say snipe?? I would like to own that card but will pass due to your name being on the bidder list.

Please be kind to me. Even though I'm now a former postal employee, I'm still capable of snapping at any time.

Bob, did you cut it yourself or buy it like that? If the former, what did you use?

PS, high bidder is called "banlon". I always found that word intrinsically amusing, onomatopoetically.
    WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay
  • Helionaut,

This card was part of a set I won in the recent Lew Lipset auction. It was already cut. I'm not sure what the best method is for handcutting these
cards. If anyone has experience with this, that would be helpful to know.

I've recently sliced up a few Hostess Schmidt cards and Meadow Gold Schmidt cards. Should my results come back from PSA with promise -- I will let you all know my cutting techniques. Really, all I did was use one of those neat little ruler-type things with the circular blade embedded in it. If you start in the middle of the card -- you generally avoid the "bat ears" of trimming -- and end up with neat sharp corners. The ruler part helps ensure that you make a straight cut -- so all ends up looking aesthetically pleasing.

Bob -- good luck on the auction. It's a wonderful card. You ever consider selling direct to people like John? He recently added a bunch of Bazooka 9's to his collection, and he has a reputation for paying top dollar privately.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • Marc - Let us know how they do come out. I have a ton of Hostess and quite a few Bazooka and was thinking about trimming them. Ill also look for that ruler/slicer contraption.

    Thanks!

  • When I was a kid, we cut them up with scissors in Art class. Then the teacher took the scissors away and we got detention *laugh*

I imagine that we will see many more Bazooka, Post, Hostess type cards in the near future now that PSA is grading these cards. I have quite a few uncut panels that I am seriously considering separating if prices continue to be this strong.
