Major gold rarity for auction at...Superior (1854-S $2.50)

Of all the amazing gold coins for auction in early January, including no fewer than 6 1870-CC gold coins (2 each denomination), they are all overshadowed by the Superior auction of the famed 1854-S $2.50. This one is the ex-Bass specimen and the finest known. It is an interesting issue, with fewer than 250 struck and only 9-12 known to exist, mostly in low grade. Doug Winter wrote an article on it this past year.
This is one rare issue...unfortunately, because it appeared in the Superior catalog, I now have to add this catalog to my keepers (drat!)...or at least tear out the page. Any collectors or dealers looking to make a play for it?

JUST got done looking at that one. Wow!!
Received the "ooooh, you're rare so we'll continually upgrade you" bonus from PCGS but still, 10-15 known with that being the highest...

Actually, John, per DW, the Bass specimen was graded PCGS AU-50 in '99.
