During this holiday season, as you are buying gifts for non-numismatists, what other hobbies are you

This is what I have encountered so far as I have satisfied my Christmas shopping list.
Many of the items were purchased on Ebay.

Florida Highway Patrol Crown Victoria diecast police cruiser. This was purchased for a cousin who collects emergency vehicle die cast models, but I thought I might get one also, since I am a big supporter of law enforcement.

Bell A109 Augusta Helicopter./ Law Enforcement and Coast Guard derivatives
Strictly for myself, since I was prompted by my cousin and I have a love for helicopters in general.

Reggie Miller -Indiana Pacers Refractor Basketball Card
This is for a co-worker who is a Pacers fan. Nice stocking stuffer.

Wizard of Oz -tribute CD
Another stocking stuffer for a girl at work , who is a fanatic about the Wizard of Oz, I guess its
a nastalga thing.

Give some examples of your encounters, and how and if it has influenced you.

A fire Opal for my gal.

They are just like coins. Hard to judge by a scan, easy to turn into junk, and ebay is truly a buyer beware place. A learning curve you can see a mile ahead if you are used to buying coins.

  • Oddly most of my friends and I don't exchange gifts in an organized way. We sort of get stuff for each other when the spirit moves us, whatever the time of year. So my list is small. This year it's just one person who has become a close friend in the past months.

We often talk online while I'm surfing the coin sites and here, and often I share images of coins that I find interesting. She has an uncanny ability to grade MS Liberty Nickels. She spoke of an interest in World coins and seems to like South American issues in specific. So I picked up a half dozen coins from S.A. from a local shop, and they became the gift. :-)

Unless I am knowledgeable in the field I avoid hobby gifts completely.
