I've seen the opposite as a buyer. I was at a store in the Rochester NY area one time and the dealer there had some really nice British stuff. As I was joyfully rifling through it, hoping I had enough money to buy all the best pieces he had, a seemingly nice older gentleman walked in and asked a couple of questions about coins he wanted to sell. The dealer was very abrupt with him while telling him the usual story that his coins were worthless. As the gentleman quietly left, the dealer cried aloud "geez!" I thought it was classless all around. Ajaan - you may know the guy (I don't remember his name, but I'll PM you my guess if interested).

I wouldn't have bought the coins, but they were so darn cheap I figured better they'd be better in my hands than his. I haven't seen him since. Of course, the business I had in Rochester dried up years ago.

By the way, this was one of the pieces he had. It's much better than my useless scan:

True, there are dealers who are jerks as well! They come out in droves at shows.

The subject of my favorite jerk dealer story was actually a woman dealer, believe it or not. I'm not making this up. She would wear pink hot pants at the shows, and believe me, the jaws of people young and old would hit the floor (I must confess, I was quite entranced with that look, even knowing what she really was image).

It turned out though that her appeal ended with the tight clothes and fab legs. She was evil - she had a stepdaughter who she derided right in front of me and my wife, in her store, for no reason apparent to either of us. Her customer service was atrocious - sending coins for grading the slowest shipping manner possible, for example. Years later this store is still in business, she runs it and I have no idea why. My dad can't stand them (he collects stamps and used to go there) and after what I saw, I never went back - I didn't care what coins they had.

True story- I walked into darkly lit coin store (my first time in this store) and after 3 or 4 seconds a "grumpy" gentleman asked me what I wanted. I told him that I had a few nice examples of a 1983 DDR Lincoln cent and would he mind looking at them and tell me what he thought about them (they were nice MS63-64RD raw coins). He looked at me and basically yelled at me saying "I can't understand all this craziness over doubled die coins- in my opinion they are all worthless". I looked at him and said "thank you" and left. I have since given another dealer thousands in business. I had just moved into this area and I can't believe it but he is still in business 10 years later-Go figure.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

It'll be awhile before that rises to the top of my priority list, I'm afraid...
