I am glad I went CHRISTMAS shopping today!!

marmacmarmac Posts: 1,505 ✭✭✭
My wife and I planned to finish our xmas shopping today rather than fight the weekend madness. She had to stop at a quilt store which is directly across from a little coin and curio shop(I love that fabric store!!).Well long story short this coin left with me!Am I right in assuming this is an example of END ROLL toning? Either way I love it and I have been known to spend fifty bucks on stupider stuff!

  • I like it. I have gotten very fond of toned morgans. Going to have to pick up a common date one

  • Looks like either bag toning or one big fingerprint on that coin to me ... but it IS a nice one! Good going!

It looks like album toning to me, except for the textile toning.image

That's album toning with a fingerprint... this is an endroll (note the squared off edges):

I think the nut is a little high right now. Yes it very much looks like end roll toning with a finger print.

Very nice coin even with the print. MS66 IMO

I am under the assumption that this is end roll toned because of the 'squared up ' spot of gold in the middle. The pic doesnt capture it that much but the toning changes or ends very abruptly. As for the finger print? Its character baby...........
Russ XMAS? its everytime I go to the mailbox at there is something other than a bill in there.

Well at least the finger print is agreed upon.

Ok- maybe endroll... upon first glance, I didn't really see the brown in the middle with the edges... it's a lighter one

    Jeremy,

Endrollers don't always have the sharp geometric pattern evident in your example. Yours is a result of the coin being completely stationary for a long period of time.

Unfortunately I dont think the "finger print" is clean enough or I would be able to track the person down and Thank him in person.
  • That's a definite fingerprint. I'm usually really anal, but for some reason I don't mind fingerprints like this on toned coins. They look more like antifingerprints to me, just fingerprint-shaped breaks in the toningimage

Xpipeddream -thanks,I think.........Fingerprints typically bother me and I shy away from coins that possess them, however this one it just seemed to add more character too. It is an 1887p in an old

I bet you actually suggest to your wife that she needs to go to the fabric store alot more than she really thinks she does.

There's a really nice coin shop a half a mile away from my work place. I have been known to spend quite a few lunch hours there. The dealer and his wife are the nicest people and although I don't buy a tremendous amount from them, its nice to talk coins with knowledgable people.

Aside from what everyone's saying about that Morgan's signiture print, its beautifully toned.
