I always knew that card 191 had a variation where 214 could either be Tom or Dick Kelley...what I hadn't noticed is that this could just as easily been the mays neck/no-neck version.

Here's a pic

Does the fact that Willie's neck is missing make for another variation?

ACOWA - thats neat! Thanks for the info w/ scan.
Question, does the no neck versions only have Dick Kelley?
And the full neck only have Tomk Kelley, or does the no neck have both etc...
With that said, which is more rare, thus more desirable...jay
  • is there a "Harry" variation?

someone had to say it......image and it looks like I beat Vargha to it!

  • I just checked and I have both variations - and they echo that of Acowa's - i.e. neckvs. none and which Kelly (Tom/Dick).

Would be interseting to understand which is more scarce

  • The Mays neck/Tom Kelley version is correct. The Mays no-neck/Dick Kelley is the scarcer variation, according to early 90s price guides, by a factor of 2-to-1.

However, the population report shows only one (1) Tom Kelley ever graded and 110 Dick Kelley versions. If that's correct, I've got the 1-of-1!!image

Or course, it's not correct. Some of the 110 are mislabeled and collectors don't know or don't care.

Here's another variation card that you might be interested in. I knew these existed but had never seen one graded or ungraded. It is the dreaded white smear variation (on his name) Not a pretty 8 BTW and I probably overpaid...but I had never seen one.

Alan -- That's actually a UFO. The rare "alien" version commands quite a premium among collectors of the paranormal.

I have seen 1 more of this card than I have seen UFO's. I definitely got "probed" on the price...so who knows?

If anyone's interested in seeing how Beckett describes the variation, you can follow this link

There's another variation on that card too. The position of Mays's cap in relation to the 3 is changed. I'm willing to bet that all 3 changes were made at once.

Yeah, IMHO PSA is sloppy about variation labelling. Like if the submitter doesn't specify the variation
the insert card doesn't mention it either.

Hey, I tried, but you offered more. I had seen the variation before (have an ungraded one)
    but never in that condition.

Which reminds me, since I check every Bolin that goes up, there's one seller
who's got a ton of 67 PSA's and shows the same scan every time - because its the
same PSA ref # which is not going to help him sell me any Bolin's - will be damned if I'm
going to bid on every one just in case "it's the blob"

OK above we see the cap touching the 3 on the Tom and not touching the 3 on the Dick Kelley variation.
Hmm. I barely have any 191's handy (I keep the variations close to the PC while most of the
cards are in another room) so can't comment in the 3rd variation. Anyone know Dino? He seems to be
    up on the variations.
