Question about slabbing Proof Lincolns

I have been thinking about sending in the remainder of my raw proof Lincolns to PCGS for some time now (1990 thru 1999). I am wondering how tough it really is to get a PR69 DCAM grade? Do other collectors out there (who have submitted same) find that they come back with a lower grade (such as a 67 or 68) and NOT a 69 DCAM? Most of these were carefully taken out of proof sets. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated. Please share any thoughts about what to look for, what's good, not good, etc. Thanks!

Unless you've got some bad ones, most all will come back 69DC

For the year range that you mentioned, 1990-1999, it is relatively easy. Probably 80% plus grade 69DCAM for moderns. But, this assumes that no damage happened after removal from the sets and they haven't aquired any goobers from whatever storage medium was used.

  • They seem to go for under $15 on eBay. So I would total my costs and consider mailing costs, grading fees, original cost, potential grading disappointments and so forth. It may be cheaper to simply buy them already slabbed.

I have to agree with Carl. The only way I'd submit them for gradeing is if you had some that might get PR70.The PR69's are cheap enough on Ebay.

  • unless you think it has a shot at a 70 I would just buy some 69's. In the long run it will be cheaper for you.

Just put them in flips and be happy with them...what's the point in slabbing a $3 coin?
