Morgan experts can I have your opinion?

1893-s

I would never consider a seller like this but he is about 40 min drive from me.
Any opinions would be appreciated.

This coin is a little out of my price range but seeing how he is so close and there is no action with it I might be able to scrape together something in the ball park of his asking price............

    Marmac,

Looks like a nice 93-s in VF. Coin looks like a solid vf-20 to me. The one last photo does make it look a little darker though. If you are that close, the seller should have no problem meetin you in person to conduct the transaction. If he doesnt want too, then I would pass. (remeber to respect him as well and bring a liquid payment cashiers check, cash, etc, if your takin the coin back with you)

This coin is easily worth 3k in Vf, in fact the sheets are now at 3000/3300 and many I see that are not this nice are bringing more. I sold a PCGS-20 last month at 3650.00 buy it now and today would bring a little more.

You might be able to get this coin at 3k due to the fact that many will be scared to buy from a only 2 rating guy, however the coin is worth more. In fact , there are several dealers getting that that for fines.

jd - yes that was my thinking on it as well ......no way in #$%^ i would send 3k to a seller with two transactions under his belt. He might be real hungry to sell...........

  • Coin looks solid for the grade, and seems a little too cheap (seems like it should be more like around $3 1/2 K or so). $3K may just be the opening bid, and he may think that he might get more. You may want to negotiate what he would take first. I wouldn't send that much money to someone with only a "2" rating unless it were in person in a public place, and it were via a USPS money order (hard to counterfeit). I got my 1893-S from a dealer I knew in person at a coin show in a PCI G04 holder, but I knew it was only AG03. I had it regraded by PCGS as AG03, but I only have around $600 in it (now worth around $1100). A VF20 would be out of my price range.

If it looks like the slab picture i think it's a nice coin but if it's as dark as the big obv & rev pictures I don't care much for it because it's so dark that it's unattractive.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
  • There is a chance that the reason it is so dark is that it has had a very old light cleaning. Just a thought.
