Proof Jefferson people, I need your opinion on this 1940 Proof Nick

Does this look like bad steps or the rev. of 38? It almost looks like bad steps to me, but I have not seen proofs with that bad of strike.

    Hard to tell from the photo because of the slight rotation. It is a recent submission (withing a year) so I would think that it would be designated (unless the submitter did not list it as a variety).

    Morris, Looks like the normal reverse, just weakly struck.

    I have a few of the wrong reverse, and they look slightly different than the one pictured.

    That one is well struck. The top step is thicker than the rest. The steps are straight and not wavey. Nice example of rev. of 1940. I agree that the first one is likey a reverse of 1940 as well.
