Which 1924-s Lincoln Cent would you rather have?

I have 2 1924-s pcgs ms64rb Lincolns. One is actually a red coin, pink in color, but has a light brown fingerprint in the right obverse field. The luster is strong but not full and the strike is virtually complete. The other is an even reddish brown color, not too dark, maybe a slightly dark tan, and some barely distracting darker toned lines here an there. The luster is fairly weak but the strike is completely full. BTW one is for sale on BST so I need to decide which one to keep and which one to sell!

So who's for a more luster red with a light fingerprint? Who's for less luster rb with no major distractions?

  • Which side is the print on? Is the print what kept the coin at 64 or did it develop later?
  • right obverse field. The print keeps it from red... as for ms65, wow, I never even thought of calling an early s Lincoln ms65, but minus the print the coin is quite nice. It doesn't have any contact marks, but maybe the luster is just not full enough to be gem. It has nice luster though, unlike the other one which is much more subdued.

From what I was told in the grading class, a visible print will usually drop a coin to 64 as a max in most cases (when it is on the obv in a prime focal area).

I would prefer whichever one of the two coins is the most eye appealing to me. Sometimes prints bother me and sometimes they do not.

I'd take the less luster with no major distractions. There are two things that bother me beyond that which words can discribe.... prints and carbon spots. I'd rather have a serious nick than either of the other issues.

    Link to his BST post.

Too bad you dont have any browns, I'm lookin for a bunch.
