Is this a good system for grading IHC?

I found this site (indiancent.com) and it looked to be exactly what i was looking for, specifically providing guidelines for grading Indian Head Cents. My question to you all is...Is this grading system a pretty good one to go by? --- Link--> IHC grading

Obviously i think that STRICT adherance to any written grading scale is dangerous becuase it doesn't take into account many of the subjective items (toning, scratches, etc.), but this seemed to be a pretty good example of how to at least BEGIN grading IHC.

So would you recommend/use this grading scale?

Written by the worlds expert on IHC's - probably a good system.

  • thanks guys...and yes, i just realized that Rick Snow (the man that i've heard oodles about since restarting my IHC collection) wrote the grading system on the website.

This should help me out a little.

and Ron, thanks for the other link.

Steve - I use Rick's guide all the time with circulated IH's, I just don't have a good feel for them. Images help a lot more when grading circs since there's no issues with lustre, toning changes and tiny hits/spots that can often be hidden in an MS photo. Probably the toughest area to translate into an online guide is the MS65/66/67 jump where small degrees of lustre, striking depth and intangibles make seeing the coin in person a lot more educational.
