Merc folks. Take a look at this link.

Right Here

What do you think of this ? The Dominick MS67FB coin is in the Apollo Collection. Did he have another 45P that was upgraded to 67FB Proof Like by this other company. If so, why in the heck would anyone do this ?

I just noticed that the seller has said this is a $35,000 coin. Whats the deal with a Buy It Now at $7500 ? image Shady ?

    Hi Ken,

No one in their right mind would take a coin of that value out of a PCGS holder and put it into a SEGS holder. The coin might have come out of the collection, but that does not mean it was the one used in the Registry Set.

Who would bet 7K those bands are really split. You certainly cannot tell from the picture. The bands look very iffy on the right hand side. Just MHO.

Sure sounds like a claim that this is THE coin that was in the PCGS Registry, but yeah, right...

I wouldn't touch a coin that cost that much in a SEGS holder, unless I could take it immediately to PCGS to see if it would cross over.

I've seen hundreds, probably thousands, of '45-P dimes, and have never seen one that's fully prooflike. Has anyone else? I wonder what the standards are for SEGS to call it P-L. It doesn't really appear to be very P-L in the photos.

Ken, I see you've changed your icon. Are you taking up Washingtons now? image A set costs a lot less than Mercs, and there are a lot of colorful quarters.

I do not recall Bill Dominick having a 45 in 67FB in his set. I thought it was a 65FB. But my memory...........the first thing to go is the mind.......the second thing is hmmmm.......what was I talking about?

oreville go check the two sets I mentioned. Both show the 67FB coin. Heck maybe PCGS is just inserting numbers into these sets. image I think not though. image

Can't tell, poor scan and the holder may have scratches on it.BIN,somethin amiss here.

This is my thought,It was cracked out and sent to PCGS for an upgrade, than came back NFB,than to ease the pain,he sent it to SEGS???

Good thought Al. Do you think this is the FB 45P that PCGS slabbed that many people said was not FB. I remember some discussions about such a coin but not anything about what grade it was.

  • my answer was incorrect. I got 2 different company names mixed up.
  • I HAD TWO 1945-P MERC DIMES IN 67 FB,ONE IN SATIN BU AND ONE IN PL
THE COIN WAS PART OF MY REGISTRY SET AND ON DISPLAY AT THE 2000 ANA
I ALSO DISPLAYED NGC COINS THAT WERE PART OF MY REGISTRY SET SOME OF THESE NGC COINS CROSSED AFTER I SOLD THEM BY THE NEW OWNERS. PCGS IS TOO TOUGH ON CROSSOVERS THEN AND EVEN MORE DIFFICULT TODAY. THE PL COIN WAS SENT TO PCGS FOR CROSSOVER ONLY ONCE,SOMEDAY IT WILL CROSS. PCGS ALSO DOESN'T PUT PL ON THE HOLDER
THIS PL COIN IS THE ONLY ONE I'VE EVER SEEN IN 30 YRS OF COLLECTED MERC DIMES.THIS MAY BE ONE OF THE FIRST COINS STRUCK? THE RESERVE ON THIS COIN IN THE AUCTION WAS 35K MAYBE TOO HIGH I GUESS.

I hear and understand all but I second Wayne's concern - what would it this coin grade @ PCGS??? Is it truly FB? I am quite suspect seeing this super coin in a SEGS holder JMHO

I think the seller is giving us his opinion with the BIN price. They must think it will cross to PCGS MS65FB, otherwise why sell it so cheap?
