Congrats to Tom and Diane Papa--Joseph Gretzky

Congratulations to Tom(GoSoxBoSox) and Diane Papa on the birth of their second son--Joseph Gretzky Papa. What a great name!

Joseph is 6 pounds 9 oz. and 19 1/2 inches. Don't really consider myself in the baby announcing business but Marc Schoenen and Tom Papa are two of the greatest guys on the boards and will be great fathers. Tom loves 34 Goudeys and hates Kelloggs and now has two wonderful sons.

Maybe, but he will have to watch his son eat Kellogg's cereals for many years.

    Congrats Bosox!

  • Thanks Guys!!! It's been a wonderful last three days. Little Gretzky and Mom are both doing great.
It took a few years to break the wife in on that name but she went for it in the end.

So here's the story behind..."why Gretzky?" Back in 1986 I was bartending at a local bar owned by ex-Phillie pitcher Larry Christenson. As it turned out Larry was a good friend of Gretzky. Anway...to make a long story short I spent 5 hours that night with Wayne Gretzky, Glenn Anderson and a body guard. My twin sister brought up all of the 8" x 10" photos I had in frames on my bedroom wall and Gretzky personalized all four of them to me along with a 4" x 4" beverage napkin and a few hockey cards. They are all now part of the scenery in my bar.

At the time I met Gretzky he was my hero and scoring over 200 points per season. It was a dream come true and unlike most experiences people have meeting their hero's Gretzky could not have make the experience better for me. I kicked his ass at penny hockey!!! And I still have witnesses!!!

How could my wife say no to the name knowing all this?

    FB,

Good memory...you were close. My first son was supposed to be Thomas Yaz but I let my wife have Thomas Carl instead. Carl was her grandfathers name it I still got my baseball idol so it was a fair compromise image

If we have a third son the middle name is either Bossy or Elway!!!

glad all went well, especially now that I know you own a bar !
