The Future of Proof IHCs ???

I started this thread over on the US Coin Forum (at least part of it as another topic), but thought I'd bring the question over here. With all the high end IHC proofs coming up for sale at FUN, and other factors - well, any opinions?

<< <i>I've decided to focus on a high end proof IHC set over the next few years, but since it is also an investment, I plan to be very cautious. Do you (or any/all of you) think many new IHC proof collectors are entering the hobby?

Seems to me that the prices of proof IHCs has remained relatively flat - any opinions on the future of this market?

Personally, I think proof IHCs are some of the most beautiful coins available, but there doesn't seem to be much interest? >>

The proofs in the upcoming Heritage sale may give a little jolt to the prices. One area I've noticed a lot of new interest is RB & BN tissue toned IH proofs. The premium paid for exceptionally nice ones is starting to resemble that of monster toned silver and I wouldn't be surprised if some new buyers are coming from that area. In major auctions and even on Ebay I've been watching a lot of increased bidding for these over the past year.

Do you know if the large number of proof IHC sets coming up for auction at FUN is coincidence, an attempt to sell into a perceived strong market, or is there any other reason?

The large number of proofs in the Heritage FUN sale is due to two major sets being offered, the "Palm Beach" & "Richard" collections. The Palm Beach coins were on display at the ANA and I'm sure that triggered some smaller IH proof consignments from people who wanted to ride the wave of interest. But I'm not sure why either of these sets are hitting the blocks right now aside from the fact that FUN is one of the two big yearly shows. Last year's FUN also had two major IH proof sets for sale -- the "Gorrell" & "Newmismatist" collections.

I know in one instance it's a health issue. The others may be market timing or thrill of the hunt (ie: once done, time to sell and start another series). In addition to the Heritage auction, ANR has another registry set up for auction.
