What a difference a year makes... 1973 Topps

Last year, I sent in this card as one of my 4 free submissions for renewing my membership. It went for $105 on eBay.

So far, with 2 days left, it's still sitting at $9.95:

1973 Topps PSA 9 D. Thomas

I've still have over 500+ NRMT (7) to MINT (9) commons from this year that I need to get around to submitting... it's interesting how the creation of the PSA set registry has put a demand on commons like this one! I'll probably base my initial submissions on the low pop 8s and 9s.

  • gaucho,
That's the new Padres logo eh? I went to sandiegopadres.com and took a peek at Petco field (a 3D tour), I wasn't able to see the new uniforms though. Does the new logo mean new uni's? Any insight? New uni's always intrigue me for some reason. How about the Padres uni Thomas has on that '73?...eee gads!

  • Yeah, new logo, new unis.

I couldn't really find a good site that displays all 3 (1 home, 2 away). The sand color away unis resemble the Brewers current look.. one I'm not to fond of... but as a lifelong Padres fan, I'll get used to it eventually.

This site has 2 of them in the banner logo up top: Pads site
  • Could it be that when you listed it last year, it was the only 9 and a couple of people were building sets, and since then, the demand from those people has been satisfied?
  • I guess it's hit or miss. Two or three years ago I was picking up PSA 9 commons from '73 for about $10 when I could. Earlier in the summer I put them up and got $15-$30 each for them at that time. It helped that a board member or two were bidding, including one with political aspirations who was upgrading a recent aquisition. Bidders who refuse to lose are a sellers best friend.
  • All it takes is 2 bidders to have to have the item or die to bring it up to $100.00. The bid sniping sites I am sure have slowed this down a bid.
