Another crazy Gretzky bidding war.

A few months ago, I posted a link to a 1985 OPC PSA 9 Gretzky that sold for a record $250. This 1986 OPC PSA 9 appears to be on its way to a new sale record as well. I've never seen this card go much over $100-$120.

  • why on earth is this card selling for this much? ive seen it top out at $100 or so, it usually sells for $50-$75.

if anyone wants mine for $125, ill gladly take it

Actually, a couple of years ago our own raym8 had PSA 9 copies of every regular issue OPC Gretzky from '80-81 to '89-90 close on the same night. The prices realized were insane. I don't have my old eBay records any more, but his '86 probably went for somewhere between $250 and $300. Of course, that was before the modern market took a dive. This is very likely the highest price since then and probably 75 percent more than the going rate on this card.

  • hockey, more than any other sport, sees huge price fluctuations. especially in 80's material. it seems that higher pop cards are pretty consistent (89 Sakic, 88 Hull, 79 Gretzky Topps psa 8), but the lower pop cards are all over the place pricewise. that 1985 PSA 9 you mentioned that went for over $200 went for around $60 the very next week. i just won an 81 OPC Larry Murphy rookie for over $125. the last one i bought last year was $40. the Messier rookie is the worst- in the span of one month i tracked 2 sales over $600, and 2 sales under $300.

i remember some of the prices you got for your psa 9 Gretzky cards around this time last year. i got sniped for the 2 i wanted (1980 OPC Team Leaders and 1980 OPC League Leaders) at almost $200 apiece. they havent sold for higher than $85 each since then.

No foolin'? I don't religiously follow modern hockey auctions the way I used to, but I figured those auctions would've caught my eye.

I got very lucky with that run of cards. With the exception of the 82 Gretzky, they were all won by the same person (scerb13)

Also, for anyone out there who receives an offer to end an auction early, and is tempted to do so, let me share this with you :

A few days before the auctions ended, I had an offer of $450 to end the 80 Gretzky early. I was pretty tempted since the card
was barely at $100. I ended up telling the guy that I appreciated his offer, but I was going to let the auction run its' course,
and that he could end up getting the card for less than his offer. The card ended up selling for over $1,200. I've never seen
that card sell for anywhere near that amount since. As I said, I was very lucky with that run.

No, I don't, Davino. You could try phantasytour.com, but I'd just put 'em on eBay.

Why would anyone want to buy anything from goodriddance? I hear he is a major thief from a few of his bidders. He threatens them if they leave him negative feedback. I hear he has had 5 different accounts suspended on ebay, but just keeps coming back on because ebay does not care. I also hear that he is a horrible bidder, just look at his negatives. He does not like to pay.

    Final price: $187.50!

It looked like a bidding war, though.

One of your all time best ebay accounts was the-biddler it showed what a true idiot you are. If it wasnt for squaretrade your gottabuyit$ account would already be suspended.

Everyone who reads this board would have no trouble dealing with goodriddance . You however is another story

goodriddance189, obviously noname is a lowlife troll who only posts in a negative manner to upset people, he has posted something negative on almost every post that is currently going. hopefully the SM1 will get around to banning him soon.image

goodriddance - don't worry. The rest of the board knows better than to listen to Apu. He makes the thesis sound real.

  • howitallbegan, nickm, packcollector- thanks for the kind words. i guess this is noname's attempt at getting back at me for saying disparaging remarks about him and his numerous ebay accounts. only thing is, i have proof (people have forwarded me threatening emails he's sent, among other things), and he's just talking out his sorry a$$
