    send it to
    spoof@ebay.com
they'll tell you pretty quickly if it was legit or not

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • I have always wondered about the automated response that you get from spoof@ebay.com when you forward an email. I'd like to see what would happen if I got a legitimate email from ebay and sent it to them? In fact, I'll try it right now - I'm going to forward one of those "endofauction@ebay.com" emails to see what sort of response I get.

Dave, sorry for getting off topic, but Griffins is right. Forward it and forget about it. Ebay will never send you an email like this.

  • Well, I have bad news to report.

As I stated in the previous post, I forwarded one of my "endofauction@ebay.com" messages, which we all know is a legitimate email from ebay, and I got the same standard response:

The email you reported did not originate from, nor is it endorsed by,
eBay. We are very concerned about this problem and are working
diligently to address the situation. We are currently investigating the
source of this email to take further action. You may rest assured that
your account standing has not changed and that your listings have not
    been affected.

I think we've all been hosed by ebay once again. I have serious doubts that they are "currently investigating" or are "very concerned about this problem". The same automated response goes out to everyone while ebay does nothing with these forwarded emails.

Does anyone have any info that would suggest otherwise?

  • I have been getting them a lot lately as well.

I emailed EBAY about it, and they told me to send them the email. So, I did so.

Now I am getting emailed saying veryify your idenity from EBAY. I am getting tired of this crap.

  • I get them from PayPal too (average about 2-3 from each weekly). I e-mailed both EBay and PayPal with the "request identity or your account will be closed" e-mails. Both are scams. Neither company requests identity's in this manner

  • Robr and 34GC,

As I have found out tonight, it is a waste of your time to email ebay (and likely paypal as well since they are basically the same company) with these scams.

Again, does anyone have any proof that a real person actually looks at or does anything with these emails? I got the same automated response that said the email that I forwarded was not from ebay, when in fact it most certainly was. image

Just keep paying attention to details. I got a message from "ebay" recently that opened a popup window. My main browser went to regular ebay, but the script in the popup window was sent to the thiefs.

I usually send an ebay userid of "doesmymomknowimatheif" or other more crud names.
  • Thanks guys!
  • Any emails from ebay asking about personal information are fake. If ebay needs something corrected they will tell you to go to the site and correct it. Never click on any links that would tell you that you can put your personal information in after clicking on it.
