Jetons or coins? No one has any information?

imageimage

The country name doesn't appear on them, and they say they are "good for" monetary amounts, but Krause simply lists them in sequence with French governmental issues, without comment.

The 50 centime piece was minted from 1921-29 and 1 and 2 franc pieces from 1920-27. Apparently no Republic of France coins with the traditional French Liberty-Equality-Brotherhood motto were minted in those denominations during that period of the pre-World War II Third Republic.

All are aluminum-bronze, and the design of the 2 franc as pictured in Krause is identical to these two. (If anyone's planning to hold a giveaway, a nice '24 2 franc would complete my set and maintain the date sequence.)imageimageimage

    Roy:

Those are listed in Krause as official French coins of the "Chamber of Commerce" series (I don't have my book with me here at work so I can't give you the number image).

Edited to add: France suffered a lot economically after World War I -- not as much as Germany, but almost, leading to a debasement of currency.
  • They're legitimate coins, but as Newsman pointed out, the economy was dicey -- in fact those were the peak years of hyperinflation in Germany. I'd imagine they would be easy to demonetize, if need be.
