1953 Canadian Nickel.....any guess on grade?

I just snapped off a few pics of the 1953 canadian nickel and posted them to my folder on villagephotos. The coin is much more mirror-like in person but I didn't take the time to play with the lighting to get that look in the pic. There is some sort of contamination that can be seen. I tried to wash it with dishwashing soap and water and it removed most of it. I didn't want to rub it. Does anyone think that the soaking with `Goo-gone' idea for removing contaminants would work here without hurting the surface? Its a nice coin....too bad its got that crap on it. I hope it can be salvaged. Any guess on what it might grade? Here is the link to the coin.....the files are large for detail....a warning to dial-up users:

I won't guess the grade, but I can suggest "MS70" to remove the goo. It is a surfactant and not an acid, so it won't hurt the surface of the coin. You can rinse it in pure acetone or distilled water to get the MS70 off.

  • I'm just going to hope that it isn't rust as the chrome plating now and then was less-than perfect, so I've seen high-grade chrome-plated-steel 5c with sm. rust spots. It does look like rust, though.

The chrome does retard wear, so higher grades are harder to tell apart. I've got a pile of EF+ sitting in the "unsorted" box on my desk that I haven't bothered to look at. Guess at AU

I was gonna go for MS63 because I didn't see any wear, but I will defer to those with more experience. If CCguy says AU, it probably is.
