Why I like books

Many of you know that I have been collecting Union of S. Africa coins. Until today I had no other reference material other than Krause to research. I purchased a Book by Brian Hern on ebay, " South African Coins and Patterns (1999). In it he states that "all" bronze coins from 1923-1942 were mint blackened as not to confuse them with gold coins. (Did not know that!!) However there are some red ones that have turned up which are rareities. image

It's interesting that you bring this up. I have at least two rare books in my collection that had later reprints made (1980s or so). Now I almost never get the originals out of the safe since I use the reprints as work books.

It's too bad there isn't a way that the ANA or a similar organization could take the rare (out of copyright) books and produce an affordable CD or DVD of the contents...

I know I've posted a recommendation to join this club once before, but now I'm an even bigger advocate. For the cheap yearly membership price, you can access all (something like 3,000) of their library books for the cost of postage and insurance. I just borrowed 3 books on tibetan coinage, and received them in 4 days. Check out this link http://www.numis.org/ and click on the library link. The full index of books is on the web.

    Cheers!

I had a friend in kindergarten, sat next to me on the bus. He always had some kind of junk food. But when he didn't.. he ate his books! So I guess books are healthy? Maybe not.. I haven't seen him since then...

Y'know they slab comic books nowadays... image
