1969 Topps PSA 8 Lou Brock

With past discussions relating to this card, what do you think of this one that recently sold for $312?

Comments

  • I would like to compare that one to Dave R.'s 9OC. Could you post a scan, Dave? From scans alone, the recently ebayed card looks identical to Ray's PSA 6. It would be interesting to hold these 3 cards in hand, along with a couple of the other PSA 7s and 8s, to see what the differences are, other than 100s of dollars in price.

  • We were prepared to go large on that card until the scan was examined. The centering is really off.
Hopefully a better example will appear.

I'm surprised to see it went that high. I was predicting around $200 due to the centering being very marginal. The scan is too small to accurately measure but eyeballing it, I say it's no better than 65-35. Looks like we might need to get Joe O. to bump up the SMR again! image The last decent 8 sold for around $550 if I recall. There may be a few more hitting the market before long. The pop went from 21 to 26 in the few months since I last checked it.
  • JEB - I would not normally be in the habit of adding 6's to my set but as you can see, for a Brock, that 6 aint half bad. I have just recently purchased a PSA 7 sight unseen for a nice price which I dont have in yet. If the 6 is nicer, however, it stays in.
I feel that the Brock is, far and away, the toughest star card in the set in high grade. No price for a PSA 8 surprises me.

Good win for a holder buyer. Kind of funny too.

  • Sometimes a PSA 6 grade is given due to a minor indent or hairline crease that is visible under magnification but hard to see with the naked eye.

  • I would normally be an aggressive bidder on this card but passed feeling the card was overgraded. It is a marque card to the set and one that will be checked if you ever sell. I will stay with my PSA 6 and hope the Brock I just sent in will get an 8. Its at least a 7. Time will tell.

  • I have a psa 7 of the Brock that looks better than this 8.

My centering is 50-50 TB and 60-40 LR.

I will be putting it up on ebay in January for all who are interested.

Anyone have an idea what a nice 7 should sell for?

It will probably sell for about $10-$15 but I'll give you $20 for it if you sell it right now. image

  • JEB,

Ok, I'll take the 20.00 offer, but the shipping and handling is $139.99 extra!

The 7s typically go for $30-40. If it has nice eye appeal, it could go for more. Particularly since the 8s have seen a run-up in prices recently. I wouldn't expect to see three figures on it though. 7s aren't nearly as tough as 8s for that card.
  • The PSA 6 pictured in this thread is up for sale. First offer of $25 takes it. PM or email and I will look at the date and time line for the fastest trigger.

  • I'm really surprised that 8 didn't get an OC designation. The PSA 6 looks just as good if not better and has similar centering. It's gotten to the point you can't buy any graded card without seeing the scan. The irony is that if that card was in an SGC holder we would hear about their leniency on centering. But an OC card in PSA holder is okay.

  • Undoubtedly the Brock is a tough card .... But Here is my recent addition... Crossed over from a GAI 8. If you look at the scan it appears the same as the card that just sold on EBAY. But I have the centering as 65/35 . Here is the scan and a link (Images saved AOL do not seem to work well here)

  • Although centering is always an issue with the Brock, two reasons it is often knocked down are registration (clarity of photo) and snow. The Brock rarely 8's because the photo always seems to be ever so slightly out of focus.
    Luxury - Nice going!
