HLRC - Rcommendations

I seem to get something from Harry who knows what his name is - HLRC every week. I occasionally read it, occasionally delete it. I went to the website today and found a Morgan Dollar of interest.

I have rarely seen reference to this outfit here.

Can anyone shed any light on HLRC for me please?

I see them at a lot of shows. They have nice stuff and though I have never purchased from them, they seem to be respected in the business.

HLRC has a lot of nice stuff- no junk, but the serious s**t. Comparable to D Lawrence- can be a bit pricey but the quality is all there. I bought from them in Baltimore this year and it was nothing but the pleasant experience you hope for.

I was just taking a look at their site SarasotaFrank - they've got some NICE items. I believe Legend has had some good things to say about them - overall it seems like the coins are of high quality. I would feel comfortable trying a purchase.

Harry is an a-ok guy, takes good care of his customers, selects nice quality pieces to include in his inventory, and knows coins inside and out. I always enjoy dealing with him and would recommend him to anyone.

  • I bought from HLRC and I won't do it again. I will admit the coin is beautiful! A nice white 1920 Pilgrim in MS-65. However, after taxes, a 1% surcharge for using a credit card, and the shipping the price was well above the advertised price. I only buy from DLRC now.

My only complaint - and its not so much a complaint as an observation - is that the overwhelming majority of the coins they offer seem to be from the major auctions that I can buy from directly if I so choose. I'm not sure how much 'new' material they surface.

Harry is a very personable guy who represents Dr.Peter Shireman quite often.Peter has assembled a very nice set of Barber Half Dollars.

Harry is a very reputable dealer, and honest guy. I know several people who have bought coins from him and been pleased with the sevice. He also helps several Registry members aquire super tough pieces.

In fact I called him about a piece in his inventory thursday, and he was very helpful and accurate with the description, I decided to wait for one that will work for me a little better. However, as soon as he gets something I need, I wont hesitate about buying it.

Also, its been sometime back at the Charlotte ANA, but Harry is very fair with buying offers!

    were these all hidden charges?

if so you've got a legitimate complaint, if not, (and i can't imagine you were surprised by having to pay taxes and shipping) buy a calculator and do the math first.

Tax is tax. You can't get around that unless you want major trouble with the Feds. Shipping is shipping. Some dealers charge it, some don't. Some charge it only if the item is at a certain price level.

As for the CC, he takes a 3% hit. That means he is passing on 1% to you and absorbing 2% of the hit himself. Make of it how you will, but it certainly doesn't seem like he's gouging with the CC issue. I know that many dealers do NOT overtly charge for taking payment by CC, but they do so in others ways.

I've never had a problem with Harry; I think he's a straight shooter.
