Looks like I won one item, but had to just now check myself. Hadn't heard a word from them. I did think the auction had a few neat things & prices weren't Mastro-like...at least not on everything.

John , no I'm not. I got the email late last night saying it was withdrawn and the auction ended tuesday.

I won a couple lots but have not heard anything besides the email on the withdrawal.
  • That's great! If I ever decide to consign anything, Slater's is my choice. The option of being able to withdraw the auction after it is completed is a great idea if you're not happy with the bids. image

    JEB.
  • You need to get the details on that one and fill us in. It can't be that simple can it?

That sounds great for the seller but very unfair for the buyer. If the consigner decides to withdraw the lot a few days after the auctionn, will Slater refund the seller fee's as well?

These guys are really giving Mastro a bad name.

WITHDRAWN? I've never heard of an auction house pulling that.
You have a binding contract with them as you are the high bidder and met or exceeded their minimum bid increment.
Now I'm glad that Slaters stopped sending me their auction catalogs...jay

jay - in fairness, they may have a legal obligation to pull it if their description was materially misleading (i.e., authenticity issues, erroneous description, etc.)
It's also possible that it was withdrawn well before the close of the auction but they're not good at timely emails.

Posing as a prospective consignor that would like to be able to "withdraw" my item if I did not like the hammer price, I called the company. I talked to Marcia at 317-257-0863, and she said that once bidding ends, it cannot be retracted by the consignor. She said the Alcindor card sold and is listed as "withdrawn" due to a computer gliche. She said the buyer/winning bidder contacted her and is paying for the item.

She said some lots may have been withdrawn due to not getting PSA or GAI authentication back in time for the start of the auction ... image

Never happy with my Slater's experiences. Didn't bid this time.

I agree, and talk about rough around the edges. I got a letter basically chastising me for not bidding in the last auction despite the fact that they sent me a free catalog, and that they could not justify sending me another if they didn't have SOME indication I was going to bid.

While I can understand and sympathize with someone not wanting to waste money on shipping unwanted catalogs, the letter just had a "pissed off" tone that was totally unnecessary and unprofessional, instead of a simple "we wanted to make sure you wanted to receive our catalog" letter it could have been. With a stack of other auction catalogs in my mailbox, and eBay and the Internet - what do I need to deal with their second rate #$*@ for?
  • Based on the results in this past auction, I would not be surprised if Mastronet cut their ties with Slater's auctions. There appeared to be too many mistakes in their catalog (ie: wrong photos, horrible descriptions etc.) that does not correspond with the attention to details that Bill Mastro requires.
