I've been wrong so many times, I'm afraid to ask. Well almost.

But I definitely see something here!
It's a 1810-B Italy 1 Centesimi. Error, repunch or whatimage
Thank you,
Glenn

At the risk of being wrong, I support your suspicion that something's amiss with that date!!!

  • I can't offer any constructive comments about the date......... but I am fasinated with with close-up photos you show.

I have no idea how to do that.

At any rate the experts at Error World might have some ideas on the cause of that look.

  • Definitely looks like a repunch + some die wear/corrosion!

Very good pic of it also!

Looks like an overdate of some sort. 1810/0?. There is an 1810/09 known for the Milan mint for that year. Wouldn't surprise me to see the same for Bologna.

The other possibility (perhaps the more likely) is that they started punching the date too far east. They got as far as '181' and then realized there was no room for the '0'. They they punched a new 1 to the west. Punched the 8 over the first 1. The next 1 over the 8 and then the 0 over the last 1.

That's kind of what it looks like to me at least. image

    Nice find eithe r way.

  • Bologna had a terrible time with the dates in 1810, for instance with this 3 centesimi. The 1810/00 is a known overdate though different authorities argue about the rarity.

That being said, I'm looking for *any* 1810 1 Centesimo from Bologna; PM me if you're interested in selling... image

  • Great photos! What do you use to get them?

You seem to have a special interest in varieties, etc. I have a web page on Varieties I've come across also. I'd be interested in seeing any you run across in the future too.

  • I don't specialize in errors so I have no input on the error, but it is an interesting error whatever it is.

  • For the 50x close-ups I use the Coinscope. Their 1 to 10x lens is WORTHLESS! so for full shots I use a Ricoh RDC-4
