The Original Father of Lincoln Registry Memorials:

Sometimes you meet the nicest people on the boards and i just wanted to give a public thanks to the friendship and business/collecting relationship i have developed over the years with Mike Paciorek AKA mustangman7 on the baords and i believe Ebay as well.

Mike, was the first guy to put together a top set of Lincoln memorials before there was even a registry to post the coins to for bragging rights. I sold many of those coins to him and he was shrewd enough to sell them at one of the tops of the market with the help of Wondercoin for a nice profit. Most of those coins would be worth even more today. They currently make up a good part of the number 2 set.

Another reason for this post is that along with being a great person to deal with (despite being newly married to Wife Sharon - uhhhhh, i mean if I were married and i have been twice, i would be more grumpy - whew!), Mike expressed me fresh Venison steaks from the North Country. I have to admit, i thought it was a joke at first as inside the cooler was a frozen corn dog box but much to my surprise, there were goodies inside!

Anyway, Merry Christmas to me and many thanks to Mike AKA "The Original Father of Registry Memorials"

Mark: Great thread. image Mike is a super asset to the hobby and, no question the "original father of Lincoln Registry Memorials" (followed closely by "his son", MS67PLUS (Ed), who also built an early landmark collection of MS Memorials.

Mike is also the reason I joined these great boards when I did, as he posted a thread on the US Coin Forum about how easy it was to sell his Registry set of Memorials for "top dollar" when I assisted him with the sale of that great collection. That was many years ago, before this Registry forum even existed. And, I don't need to tell you the reaction of many members over there when they heard a Memorial Cent collection sold for BIG BUCKS image

I have already congratulated Mike on his new wife as well. I hope Mike gets back into the Lincolns STRONG in the very near future. image

Mitch, this is the precursor to the "Father of all Modern Registry Coinage" thread due out one of these days and guess who it's about?image

I remember Ed and his Memorial push as well - he should have kept that baby instead of getting into State's at the very pinnacle. oh well, hindsight is 20/20. They will be back up soon as it is with all of the series up and down - similar to other markets.
  • Nice thread. I probably should have acknowledged Mike in my set description. He certainly helped with identifying what PCGS was looking for in high grade Memorials, at that time. I own a couple pieces from Mike's set and about a third of Ed's. All those pieces were worth the purchase price for eye appeal alone, even if PCGS doesn't currently agree. If you want to add another name to the Memorial pioneer list it's Ray Kadlac.

I love venison steaks, I have a few hundred pounds of it. Where exactly is the "north country"? (and what type of venison are we talking about?)

Way back when I was toying with Memorials for the first time (just wanted to have a 100% complete set of red coins) I did a small amount of biz with Mike and found him to be a great person and a real wingnut when it comes to Lincolns (of course it takes one to know one, too image).

This is just a guess...I think that OnRutton wouldn't mind having some sane competition over on the varieties side of things.
Sounds like wondercoin would be happy to assist any contenders.....what do you say, Mike?

I just woke up and decided to check to see if Mark had emailed me about getting the steaks and he told me to check the boards. My regular computer is down and I am using a VERY OLD slow one so it took about forever for the messages to show up but when they did, I was SHOCKED at what I read.image

I have been involved with Mark (Datentype) and with Mitch (Wondercoin) way before anyone ever thought that Lincoln's were a "REAL" collectible. When I was putting together my #1 PCGS Registry set way back in 2000 most people were still of the belief that they were second class coins. It was very hard to find Quality High Grade Lincoln Memorials because nobody thought they really had any value. It took me 2 1/2 years to assemble my set and at that time, I was working in a factory with plenty of overtime, so money was pretty easy to come by. I was also still single at the time which made a big difference on the cash flow. These two guys were more than happy to sell me Lincoln's because it was a sure bet that if they had a top pop Lincoln, and I did not already have it, I was gonna take it. Then in 2000 just as the annual Registry record book was coming out, (Which shows my set as #1) I got laid off from my job and was forced to sell it against my wishes. It was one of the worst days of my life. I contacted Mitch about selling the set and he thought my asking price was a tad high for a Lincoln set. Much to my surprise, less than 24 hours later, Mitch had a buyer lined up for my set who took my set and combined it with his set and in 2001 when they began showing the winning sets with a special icon on the registry, he became the #1 set. image

As for Mark and Mitch, They have become very good friends and considering the fact that we live on opposite coasts and have never met face to face, I treasure our friendship. I have been having money problems ever since I had to change jobs and over the last couple years, I was helping a very close friend of mine try to assemble another Lincoln set to try to topple my old set and got about 75% complete and was way ahead of my old set as far as grade point average but alas, he got hit with money whoes and I again had to sell another set. I ended up sending it to Heritage and they sold the entire set off and now many of the current Lincoln collectors have coins in their sets that I had collected. I have just begun to try to rebuild another set for myself which is registered under Mustangman and now I am once again unemployed and newly married, so it will be very slow going. (Welcome to the Motor City where the auto industry is up and down and layoff's are hapening way to often) Unemployment ends but the bills keep coming.image

I live in Michigan, just North of Detroit and the venison Mark was speaking of, was a Very Tender one year old doe that I shot on opening day this year. I realize most hunters think that killing does is too easy and they won't do it, but I personally think they are the best deer meat you can get because it is so tender. I sent Mark a couple of steaks and a couple of the tenderloin's which are the tenderest parts of the deer. I also shot a buck on the second day of the season and the 4 other guys I was with, got Nodda! This made them unhappy but what can I say? When you are unemployed, you have plenty of time to drive 3 hours up North and check out the deers tracks and figure out just where they are running. But enough about me, I have neglected the new wife long enough and must go take care of her smiling face. image

I am embarassed about all the attention I have received here but I am very Thankful to have friends who care enough to embarass me like this. My best to all for the Holidays and a Very Special Merry Christmas to Mark and Mitch.imageimageimage
