Anybody know?

I received this question today:

<< <i>Hi.

I was wondering if you could help me out here. I am not a coin collector, but when I see something "cool". I keep it.
Anyway, I can across a coin at work. I looks like a penny, but it is worth 2 cents. It has what looks like 2 winged serpents entwined on the front? It is dated 1897. I have tried to research it online, but came up empty handed? I was just trying to find out what country this coin is from? If you could help me out, I would appreciate it.

Thank You.

  • Sounds like he may have misconstrued the design of the double headed eagle on the Austrian 2 heller Km-2801.

It looks like it could be that. Thanks Brad.

  • If it's worth "2 Cents" it could be a coin denominated in "Cents" or "Centimes"; I'm afraid that nothing comes to my mind that fits the description. A pic would be nice. Perhaps there's other markings or words on it?

I looked it up in Krause. From the description I did get, it sounds like a 2 Heller piece from Austria. Thanks again to Brad for pointing me in the right direction.
