Hi David,
Have you ever noticed that lower grade Barber halves and quarters tend to wear much faster on the reverses than the obverses? If so, any ideas why this happens? Some of the obverses will be a G-6 and the reverses of the same coin will be an AG-3.

You're definitely right about the way Barber quarters and halves wear. Maybe it's because the face is higher than the eagle. I think Lincolns do the same thing in low grade. Anyway, I think the high broad surfaces of the obverse devices, i.e. Ms. Liberty's head and face, keep the contact on the obverse rims lighter than the contact on the reverse rims.
Just my theory.
