OK, stop outbidding me!

A nice run of Missinglink's 71 Greatest Moments just ended and I didn't win a single one image. Heavy sniper action on the front lines as a lot of new names jumped on the best group of these to hit ebay in some time. My top bid was doubled on nearly every card I wanted and I fell asleep at the switch on the one that didn't go higher than I would've paid (McCarver). Grrr. I'm wondering if I shouldn't reap some profit on my set or if it's a transient mania in the pricing. If I have to start paying double-SMR or more on the commons, I may get out. Anyway, I'm sad for myself, but glad he caught the market on an upswing.

I know what you mean. Strong prices are a mixed blessing. I have committed myself to not getting caught up in the bidding frenzy. It's not easy taking the logical approach, but for me it's the most prudent.

It's about time they started realizing a small part of thier potential.
He who follows the SMR on the GM's will end up here posting about how they can't be had.

I'm with you Vargha, I have started to anti-snipe bid, by placing my highest bid early. This way if I win, i pay the price I want, and not the price I HAD to. Bidding Frenzies are expensive, I refuse to participate anymore.

  • I decide on the price I'm "willing" to pay and place my snipe way ahead on the end date. That way I am never influenced by the bidding frenzy. I've also found it keeps my emotions at ease. image

helionaut , much appreciated on the mccarver, I picked up 3 of them last night. The mccarver was a new one and the kaline and lolich are upgrades of 6's. I feel your pain though, I put in all my snipes last week as soon as they were listed, I thought several were strong but they never had a chance to even hit the board.

    Joel,
Like I told you two years ago. This set is so undervalued and is IMPOSSIBLE to complete in high grade. You just can't snap your fingers and go buy this set. I located many of these for Missinglinks within the past 6 months so he could begin making the set. He gave up because of exactly your issues. "They are too expensive" and "there is not a PSA 7 in that card, how am I suppose to complete it in all PSA 7's". Many of the cards that Missinglinks were very high grade and have an outside chance of getting bumped. I won one of them the Staub, which sold for half of what the last one sold for.
