Great Medal I Picked Up Today

Detailed shot:

image

The 1939 Royal Visit commemorative medal. This was made by the Royal Canadian Mint for the occasion and was struck in bronze, silver and even a few in gold. These are very well made and have a great design, obervers and reverse.
I picked up this very nice BU medal today for $25 Canadian. It's about the size of a Canadian nickle dollar and It's a very lusterous medal too

  • Maps on coins is a pretty tricky design element, quite unforgiving and rigid. In this case most of the northern islands are missing... although they may have not have been fully mapped out yet. But it's good all of Newfoundland is visible since it wasn't a part of Canada yet in 1939.

Have you seen Michigan's state quarter design? There's more of Ontario in it than Michigan.
  • I updated the lusterous pic. Hit refresh in your browser if curious.

Luster shot and detail shot-great! What were the differences in the way you imaged them to show those characteristics?

In the detail shot it looks like your lights were more direct and in the luster shot the lights were more off center?

  • You're right on both accounts. That's basically how I did it.
