  • You dog -- that 77-S proof was finest known?? Too cheap. image

    For the 76-P Ty1 there's a nice MS65 (I just sold it).

I also thought I recalled a PR69DC set of silvers that Jim Barlow had some years ago? I might be misremembering that.

    Tad,

Not sure on the grades/finest known. Just what I personally know about! I hope the 77 turns out to be, but you never know with the quality of the later date proofs.

I think most of what Jim had was PF68DCAM.

I know way back when they first came out he sent me 5-6 of them.

The slabbed PF68DCAM's were $125, which was way way too much.

I bought the raw ones for $37.50, which turned out to be PF68DCAM's. Unfortunately I only bought a handful.

    > 72-P Type I MS66

This is not the one currently in a PCGS holder. Nevertheless, it is a very nice one and it has great potential to be a PCGS MS66 member. If yes, this will be the 11th 72-P MS66 Ike dollar in the PCGS holder.

Well.... when we talked about PKOK Ike dollars before, we were talking about the coins from the hoard, purple/reddish/orange/touch of green rim and gold/light orange/yellow center. Lately, PKOK evolves to nice multiple color Ike dollars and does not limited to the original hoard coins.

James, please define the Ike PKOK before we could contribe to the thread image

  • I flipped through some old price lists from Jim Barlow and didn't find the set of silvers that I remembered, but did see these two to update your list with:

    71-S - 69DC
    74-S Clad - 67DC

There were a couple others with higher numerical grade but lesser cameo designation.

Personally I wouldn't put too much emphasis on numerical grades in determining "finest known" Peacocks... I've found grading of toned Ikes to be pretty inconsistent, particularly in proofs, and of course the grade doesn't necessarily have anything to do with eye appeal.

    JC,

PKOK should be the hoard coins only!

The extension of the PKOK name is only a way to add value to other toned specimens.

The 72-P Type I is in a PCGS holder, it's just not labeled Type I. If you recall from a thread about 1 1/2 years ago, it was a rumored coin. I have solid evidence that it is a Type I and a PKOK hoard coin.

    Tad,

    Thaks for the added grades!!!

Yes, I remembered that Jim Barlow told me the coin, a PKOK MS66 72-P and he also told me that there is a type one 72-P in a PCGS MS66 holder. I did not connect these two together. Indeed, I never saw the coin.

Nevertheless, when we counted the 9 MS66 coins, we did not include it or we miss count about it. In the 9 coin list, there is no type one 72-P in it. Does anyone still have the thread about the 9 72-P PCGS MS66 coins?

    JC,

We were not sure about one coin, and that coin is the Type I. There was some speculation about that coin being a type I. It is now confirmed.

As I recall the list, there was one missing.

    I'll start a new thread!

  • Hello James,

We have a 1973-P MS66 in a Anacs holder ( if your including Ike's from other services )

    << <i>Hello James, We have a 1973-P MS66 in a Anacs holder ( if your including Ike's from other services ) >>

Let's not forget that a bunch of these were sent originally to PCI! Back in 1992 or so I picked up four PCI Peacock Ikes from the main source of these Ikes. Sure, I eventually crossed them all into PCGS (and, yes- they all four crossed) but I bet there is a coin or two still out there that remains in a PCI holder.

Just for fun I kept one of the PCI inserts (it states, "Peacock Hoard" on the label!) and gently glued it on the back of the PCGS coin it crossed into.

    TRIVIA:
Has anyone seen one of these PKOK's in an NGC holder?
    I never have.

I wonder if NGC would cross a PCGS PKOK or not?

    Folks,

A few more updates to the list!

Pat, according to Halstead, there does exist a 1976-S Silver in a PF69Ultra Cam holder.

The last Heritage auction (Palm Beach) has a 73-P PCGS MS66 PKOK Ike dollar. This list needs to be updated.

    Just upgrade the 77-S 68CAM to 68DCAM, and the 76-S to 68CAM.

    Also upgraded a 74-S from 68CAM to 68DCAM and a 72-S from 66CAM to 68DCAM.

    All PKOK Proofs.

I guess an overall nice submission.
