Venezuelan Topps - Update

About a month ago, I posted that I had just obtained a PSA-2 1966 Jim Palmer rookie card. This was the first time that I had ever seen one. Since then, I have obtained a PSA-5 from MintXpress (at this time these were the only two graded). I then acquired a raw one (from Dave's Vintage Baseball Cards) which I submitted and it received a PSA-7 MK. Dave also had three others which have since been purchased by someone else. Those three were also graded and came back as PSA-4, PSA-5 and PSA-6. I guess when it rains it pours...

  • You are indeed correct, Venezuelans pop up in bunches. Normally on eBay they will come from a seller in Florida (not a particular seller, just in general), a larger dealer getting to that area of thier inventory, a collector giving up them, or a type collection being broken up. Dave Levin is an excellent source for these, he is constantly making trips to South America (or had been) and replenishing his inventory, which is amazing in itself considering the scarcity of these. I've seen some from time to time at the Fort but you have to have a sharp eye and know what to look for.

Sometimes it timing, and sometimes it's just knowing what to look for.

helionaut - in this set, a 2 was probably pasted into an album and has back damage.

  • Awesome pics. I'm really clueless on this set, as on the other (?) Venezuelan sets. Anyone out there that can give a quick rundown of these sets, I was under the impression that the only Venezuelan set was produced in 1967, because of the Mantles that show up every once and a while in Beckett and/or auction catalogs. I cannot remember where I've seen it, but I know of it's existance.

    Interested in learning,
